RE: RICE RPI peaks!
WOW! Stanford shows RPI of 218 after losing 3 of opening 4 games to lesser programs. AZ shows RPI of 84................ No remaining opponent higher than 50 at this time except for W, Ken at 14 although TCU, UH and other should rise over time.........03-zzz

RE: RICE RPI peaks!
If we beat Arizona on Friday and both HBU and Texas win, we will move up to #1 in RPI (because all of our opponents will be undefeated except when playing Rice and that will not be the case for Texas or other top teams).

FYI, this weekend HBU will be facing Michigan State, SE Louisiana & UT-Arlington at a tournament @UT-Arlington (Clay Gould). Texas hosts Minnesota at Disch-Falk.

Tough start for Minnesota - 3 at UH and then 3 UT. Where do they go next week? Vandy? LSU?

I guess it beats indoor cages at home.

Not quite. The Gophers play at Florida Gulf Coast (3x), an exhibition with the Minnesota Twins, at Creighton (3x), five games in Richmond with four nearby colleges and at Maryland (3x) before their March 24 home opener vs. Augsberg (followed by a weekend series vs. Northwestern).

That would be #23 FIU (Baseball America).
And fwiw BA has Miami up at #8 this week.

Nice to see three conference teams already with wins against ranked opponents.

01-wingedeagle Fascinating...........RICE drops to #4, while MIDDLE TENN jumps to #8 and UTSA to 40 and FIU to 48. Amazing results of statistical vagaries........01-lauramac2

RE: RICE RPI peaks!
I went to the FAU-UM game last night. I thought FAU outplayed UM in all but one inning where they let UM back in the game with two fielding errors. FAU's LH pitcher, Rhodes, listed perhaps generously as 5'-10", gave UM a really rough time. Some of UM's better hitters are LH and they struggled against him.

With the #3 Strength of Schedule (after Texas & Rice), 1-3 New Orleans is #5 in RPI this morning. The Privateers were swept by South Alabama (#4 in SoS and #1 in RPI!) in their season-opening series and then beat Southern Miss, 7-6. WooHoo!!

I can't get excited about the RPI rankings (or simulations) this early in season. Just win, Owls!

Statistics with small samples sizes are so much fun....

That's a bad loss for USM. UNO athletics was decimated a few years ago when the LSU system board decided to drop the Privateers to NCAA Division II, resulting in a bunch of players from all sports transferring away. Then, after a year of recruiting for Division II level athletics, the regents reversed themselves and decided to keep UNO in Division I. So for the past couple of seasons, UNO has been trying to compete in Division I with rosters originally built with Division II athletes with Division II scholarship limits.

For however long we're still in this conference, it would be really helpful if Southern Miss regained status as a Top 40 or so baseball program.

04-jawdrop WOW~ after the loss yesterday RICE RPI drops to #12 and SOS drops to #7.....

Not as bad as poor WHORNS whose RPI dropped to #39 with a SOS of #75 after winning 3rd game over winless MINN; guess it really matters who you play, win or loose ...03-nutkick

UAB remains undefeated and RPI #1 and FAU @ #3 !!!!! 02-13-banana resulting in CUSA having the #2 Conference RPI with only a 33-27 record behind the Colonial Atlantic ?? 01-ncaabbs

Arizona is going to hurt our RPI in the long run as their OOC schedule is embarrassingly bad. Weekend series against Eastern Michigan, North Dakota State, Oakland and Portland, and the Pac-12 is purported down this year with most teams-- save for UCLA, ASU and Oregon-- in rebuild mode.

02-13-banana RICE RPI back up to #5 and SOS back up to #3. Won't last long with Stanford coming in at #210. In fact no teams under 100 for many weeks to come except for midweekers v. TCU and Houston.... 01-lauramac2
