I watch Boyd, not Warren Nolan and that will be out in the morning, but to me the UH game is important. Both teams are borderline to host, both should win their conference and both are hot. Winning the series with the RPI boost that comes from beating a ranked team could be the difference.
Give how close we are in RPI, minimal RPI boost or slip, especially since it's a neutral site game. Win or lose, UH still has the edge in the hosting game since the AAC is the #3 RPi conference and CUSA in #8. They also have a better record against Top 25/50. Again, I think the only way we host is if we run the table through the CUSA tourney-- riding a what would be 15-game win streak, and both the regular season and conference tourney championships, into Selection Monday. I'm all for retaking the Silver Glove, but we shouldn't do anything in Tuesday's game that jeopardizes our taking the series next weekend...and we need Orewiler available in the pen.

Houston is 16th through Sunday - http://www.d1baseball.com/2015/rpi/0511.htm (and has almost 3 times as many games vs the RPI Top 50).

What is the head-to-head record between the two conferences? AAC vs CUSA?

CUSA has an 8-7 edge vs AAC with just the UH/Rice game remaining. Just one man's opinion, but I don't think UH deserves to host this year. This year's UH team would get smoked by last year's UH team IMO. Last year's UH team got completely hosed in my opinion when it comes down to hosting a regional. I don't think Rice or UH has the resume of a top 16 team. That doesn't mean that they couldn't get hot and do some damage in the postseason, but I just don't think UH is that good this year.
I think the committee is far more likely to give a host spot to a 2nd Big 10 team like Iowa or Ohio State than give a 4th regional to the state of Texas. The state of Florida has the same issue with FSU, UF, Miami, and FAU all in the conversation to host.
Right now there are no obvious pacific time zone host spots beyond UCLA since UC Santa Barbara can't host. But you know at least 1 other team (USC and Arizona State maybe?) are going to get the nod to give the field geographic balance. If I had to guess, hosts look like this:
Top 8
LSU
UCLA
FSU
Louisville
A&M
Illinois
DBU
TCU
Other Hosts:
Vanderbilt
Oklahoma State
Arizona State
Florida
Miami
Iowa
Missouri State
Insert your team here lol
So I guess in theory UH or Rice would have a shot at that last host spot against a 3rd team from the Big 10 or a 3rd west coast regional host.

That's possible, but I never understood the rationale for that by the committee, punishing the better team.

Historically, the only times you have a travelling #1 seed are when the #1 seed doesn't have a suitable park to host. It's almost unheard of that you send a #1 seed with a quality home park on the road.

That makes sense, of course. But if we -- and TCU, A&M & DBU -- keep up our winning ways, do you think the Committee would be more likely to give a 4th regional to Texas than send someone on the road as a #1 at a new/northern or must-have-geographic-balance West Coast host site ... or drop one of us to an uber-strong #2 somewhere?

UH hosted in 2000 at Cougar Field, which from a capacity standpoint has changed very little to now. UH traveled to Arizona State in 2002 as a #1. Last year probably should have hosted a regional and definitely should have hosted a Super over Texas.

What is the derivation and significance/importance of the "Adjusted" figures?
Our figures are identical to Coastal Carolina's, except their "Adjusted W-L" is 30.9-18.4, which would seem to be worse than ours. So why would Boyd rank them higher?

Boyd isn't "ranking" the teams. He's computing RPI's, for which the basic formula is 25% winning percentage, 50% opponents winning percentage, and 25% winning percentage of your opponents' opponents. The adjusted figure has to do with the fact that in college baseball, home wins only count for .7 whereas away wins count for 1.3. Also, there are some quirks in the RPI formula such as the penalty for losing to division 2 teams.

My guess is that reflects the home-road weighting. From memory, a home win counts as 0.7 wins vs that opponent, a home loss as 1.3 losses, a road win as 1.3 wins and a road loss as 0.7 losses.
So we're only seeing the winning percentage portion of the RPI there. Missing is the opponent's winning percentage and OOWP.
edit: or what EO18 said
