I can tell you most people in the MWC consider his hiring as a joke. Sort of the same when JP got hired but on a much larger scale.

RE: This article reminded me of some of our problems
As the OP said, the article duplicates the comments of Tommy West. In my personal opinion and at some point in the future, Tiger fans will recognize the great service that Tommy West gave the Tigers during his exit press conference. I believe it, coupled with the laughable hiring of Larry Porter, is the reason we are where we are now. Coach Fuente and AD Tom Bowen are the direct result of important people hearing what Tommy had to say and paying attention to RC's actions. Coach West was different after his heart problems and didn't seem to come back with the same competitive fire and we certainly did not get his best effort after it, but he had the courage to say what needed to be said. If we change the names in the article, UNLV was our Tigers just a few years ago. I truly hope we haven't peaked, but our current administration does seem to understand what previous administrations did not; that the publicity and prestige generated on the football field can fuel the academic recognition of the institution. At this point (but not so much at the time) I am grateful for Tommy West's impact and to some degree or another he is partially responsible for our current success.

Cavagnaro? He's been gone for some time from there hasn't he.

Funny how wherever he goes the football team turns to garbage.
