RE: Recruit Updates
Can't put TOO much stock into star ratings either, but him getting 2 stars out of High School at least means he had some pedigree to him.

17.7 Ppg, 3.3 assists, 49 Fg %, 43.9 % from 3. Pretty solid stats.

Yeah, he has a good stroke based on those clips. And, his mid-range game is impressive. Get him!

Verbal Commits lists anyone who didn't get rated by any of the major recruiting sites as a 2 star.

RE: Recruit Updates
Would be a huge get for next year. Allows Toews to acclimate to D1 ball as a back up his freshman year. Need to lock him up quick, then move on to a big man.

How many scholarships do we have outstanding? Banks and Braun are both new offers, but I'm not sure about Cannon-Flores or Kirkland. Do they have offers from the new staff, and are they still interested? Even with two LOIs and two open offers, we're have 10 taken scholarships, and minimum of two scholarships offered.
PG: Banks/Toews
SG: Fornes/Gary/Simms
SF: Taylor/Estime
PF: Cacok/Elmore/ Braun
C: Cylla/Kalina

RE: Recruit Updates
Coach has to sign them guys. And, I'll just add that I really believe that he will get guys that are good even if it's not these guys. This coach likes size with guards/wings and in the NCAA's size and speed trumps all. He needs a big that can board, defend and run IMHO.

Cannon-Flores and Kirkland were offered by the old staff. I haven't seen any indication that the new staff has been recruiting them. I believe we had 3 open scholarships going into the offseason with the Richmond dismissal. So that leaves us with 1 open at this point and 2 pending offers. It would be smart to hold on to that one for a Grad Transfer.
Cylla will never play the 5, unless they go super small... He's more of a 3/stretch 4...

Per Verbal Commits: JUCO SG Jervae Robinson (6-2, 165, 3★) | Position Rank: 54 has received an offer from UNCW.

His mid season highlights in the link above! Has potential in being a very good combo guard. Can really drive to the basket and stretch the floor from what it seems. He shoots 36.3% FG, 31.3% 3PT, and averages 14.0 ppg. Has a couple offers from a couple mid majors including Coastal Carolina and unfortunately Towson. Hope we can pick him up, would be a great tool in driving to the basket and open the floor for our 3 point shooters (Fornes and Estime?)

He's got great speed and good handles. Reminds me of a guard that would run a UNC offense. Like what I see, hope we can land him. I believe as of this offer, we don't have any to spare. I would imagine everything should start be sorted out within the next couple of weeks.

I take it you mean we have matched the number of openings we have with offers. But we can still make more offers. Number of commits is what counts.

Yes... that was my meaning behind it. I would find it very odd for us to be offering more JUCOs at this point unless one of our standing offers commits elsewhere.

RE: Recruit Updates
I disagree. You need to have at least 2-3 targets at each position you are trying to fill. First one to commit gets it. Can’t wait at this stage of the game when kids have multiple offers.

It's a tight rope walk for coaches.
Making the kid feel special enough to commit, vs insurance.
Not an easy job, by any means.

It's tough... And say the guy you really want is weighing his options and you get a lower prospect to commit... Down the road when the guy you actually want commits... You have to pull an offer from the other guy. It happens in college sports but it will rub Coaches/AAU Teams the wrong way. Not the best way to conduct recruiting. Targeting somebody and offering them a scholarship are not that same at all. Which we all know, so I don't disagree with having 2/3 "targets" per position but you can't just throw scholarship offers at all of them.

That makes sense but it seems like you're going to get burned if you need scholarships to fill at this point of the year and you are offering 1 guy at a position of need. I can see taking the conservative approach during the early signing period. I'm not suggesting taking back a scholarship if your "lower guy" commits. I'm suggesting to let the first to commit get the scholarship. If you have a significant drop off between one recruit and the rest, then it makes sense to only offer that one scholarship.

RE: Recruit Updates
I assume that we'd only take one of Channel Banks and Jervae Robinson. I'd be surprised if we don't offer a JUCO PF/C or two in the coming weeks. I don't put as much emphasis on weight as 82, but agree there has to be balance.

Well Channel Banks has narrowed his list down to Akron and East Tennessee State.... Tough recruiting loss for the staff. I hope they have some others in mind.
