RE: Recruit Updates
I heard McGrath say once that he didn't like bringing in JUCOs. But he seemed a little hesitant about saying he wouldn't.

Correct.
Verbalcommits.com is an excellent website for keeping up with our recruiting, both for the upcoming year AND future years:
http://www.verbalcommits.com/schools/uncw
I don't think Kirkland and Cannon-Flores are still recruits. They were recruited by the previous staff. Also, I think we now have 3 open scholarships for next year with Richmond's dismissal. Will be interesting to see how they use those.
I'd like to see a solid JUCO with one of those. I'm curious what coach thinks of them because if i'm not mistaken it's rare at his previous employer to get JUCOs
Can't recall UNC ever bringing in JUCOs, but I agree a JUCO or two would be nice. Especially someone who is skilled with size. I expect them to go after Grad Transfers too.

I mean it makes sense at the ACC level because you can fill your roster with a bunch of 5 star guys and call it a day. But here, sometimes you have to plug n play. I hope he'd be open to it for the right fit. How well the guy that was supposed to be here is playing at coastal is evidence #1 & Flemmings(although we all know that case was rare)

I'm sure that'll come down to a conversation with the staff.
Esleeck probably supports it, given that Mercer brought in at least one successful JUCO while he was there:
http://mercerbears.com/news/2011/4/14/4_...ath=mbball
Travis Smith played in 67 games for Mercer from 2011-13, averaging 8.4 ppg and 13.9 ppg in 2 seasons.

RE: Recruit Updates
By my count we have 8 returning scholarship players returning, provided no one transfers.
1. Fornes
2. Cacok
3. Taylor
4. Estime
5. Gary
6. Kalina
7. Elmore
8. Cylla
Freshman guards that already committed.
9. Toews
10. Simms
That leaves us with 3 open scholarships.
We badly need an experienced post player to go along with Cacok and Jeantal Cylla (sitting out this season after transferring from FAU). Ideally that would be a graduate transfer. McGrath went after one in Sallah, until he decided to play for K-State.

Not a big deal, but just to clarify Barton College is not a JUCO. They are a private 4 year college.

I know I was merely pointing out that he went from a lower level to contributing on the bigger stage

That's quite the mix of levels there

Towson also offered him yesterday. It seems that more teams have gotten in the mix as of late. Plays at Independence High in Charlotte.

RE: Recruit Updates
Former Keatts Recruit at UNCW Wyatt Walker (F/C) will be entering the Grad Transfer market this offseason. I find this interesting because he was also a Mercer recruit. At 6'9 he could add some immediate front court depth for us if the staff deems it necessary. I'm sure Esleeck has a connection, and he already knows about the school from his previous recruitment. He averaged nearly 13 and 10 as a sophomore, before suffering a leg injury this year. He will have two years of eligibility.

Ooh that's intriguing.
Regarding the bold, I can't imagine any situation where we'd turn down an opportunity to add a 6-9 big with any semblance of athleticism, especially one who doesn't have to sit out a year.
It doesn't help us in the post-Cacok era, but certainly would give us an enormous boost in Year 2 of the McGrath era, which already looks very promising.

It would help us one year Beyond Cacock and allow an extra year for someone else to step up

RE: Recruit Updates
Walker's number's at Samford: http://www.espn.com/mens-college-basketb...att-walker
Walker suffered a leg injury this year, and only played a total of 35 minutes. But his sophomore campaign was undoubtedly strong. Nearly averaged a double-double (12.9 ppg, 9.7 rpg), with 0.9 blocks, 0.6 steals, and a .586 field goal % against SoCon competition. He made the Third Team All-SoCon.
Walker is definitely a more traditional PF/C who only attempted 10 threes in his entire career with the Bulldogs.
He sounds like the perfect replacement for Marcus's role.

I don't see McGrath looking for a strictly post player at the 4. Elmore seems more in line than Bryan2

No, he'd play right away and only have 1 year here.

He probably wants both. Beggars can't be choosers for talented post players at this level. Cyllah fills our "Stretch 4" needs even if Elmore doesn't prove to be "the guy" for that role.
A guy like Walker would/could play both the 4 AND the 5, whereas Elmore and Cyllah are likely strictly 4's.
