Also if you are an alum, even if you do not contribute to the Seahawk Club, you are prohibited from contacting a recruit.

Yep. You can only recruit a player if you had a prior relationship.

It's hard for me to imagine that these ETSU and Akron fans "selling" their respective schools did not attend them. So I don't know how hard the NCAA cracks down on these rules, but I'd imagine they're rather lax... Oh well, I didn't send any tweets in regards to our school. So we are CLEAN as I am a proud alum!

I thought he was taking a few weeks off? Weird that he's back so soon from his vacation.

RE: Recruit Updates
Seahawk Club members receive the rules in their season ticket package to help prevent making any unintentional contacts with recruits. But most don't even read it.

Hope he keeps UNCW in consideration, and would encourage anyone to not reach out directly via social media.

Reading between the lines, it sounds like you're encouraging us to pool our funds and put up billboards in recruits' hometowns?

RE: Recruit Updates
NCAA rules....
Boosters are not precluded from continuing established friendships with families who have prospective student-athletes. However, boosters may not encourage a prospect’s participation in university athletics or provide benefits to prospects that were not previously provided.
If a violation occurs, it may jeopardize a student-athlete’s eligibility for intercollegiate competition, jeopardize a school’s membership status with the NCAA or cause a booster to lose access to all booster benefits.

RE: Recruit Updates
More on the role of the booster......
Boosters play a role in providing student-athletes with a positive experience through their enthusiastic efforts. They can support teams and athletics departments through donations of time and financial resources which help student-athletes succeed on and off the playing field.
Boosters, referred to by the NCAA as “representatives of the institution’s athletic interests,” include anyone who has:
•Provided a donation in order to obtain season tickets for any sport at the university.
•Participated in or has been a member of an organization promoting the university’s athletics programs.
•Made financial contributions to the athletic department or to a university booster organization.
•Arranged for or provided employment for enrolled student-athletes.
•Assisted or has been requested by university staff to assist in the recruitment of prospective student-athletes.
•Assisted in providing benefits to enrolled student athletes or their families.
•Been involved otherwise in promoting university athletics.
Once an individual is identified as a “representative of the institution’s athletics interests,” the person retains that identity forever.
Only institutional staff members are permitted to recruit prospective student-athletes. Generally, NCAA rules prohibit anyone else from contacting (calling, writing or in-person contact) prospects or the prospect’s relatives or guardian for recruiting purposes.
Students are still considered prospects even if they have signed a National Letter of Intent or any other financial aid agreement with a university.

“Been involved otherwise in promoting university athletics.” Now there’s a very broad and sweeping brush stroke!
Best leave the recruiting to the people charged with and legally able to do so ladies and gents. I’d be interested in knowing if there are any cases of donor misconduct via social media to date. Not encouraging anyone to do anything, just curious. Twitter seems like a recruiting gray area/nightmare for coaching staffs and donors.

All kidding aside, and I think that is what most (all) of us were doing, it's a bad look to be reaching out to a kid that you don't know with advice on where he should go to college.

I agree... I'll revert back to what I said originally, I think it's kind of lame to try to persuade a kid where to go to school via twitter or any other form of social media... TBH some people might think it's lame that I even follow the kid... My belief is the coaches should be able to persuade a prospect to come to our school, that is a part of their job. If he chooses another school, good for him. I'll unfollow and hope he has a solid career, unless it's against UNCW, of course.

RE: Recruit Updates
New highlight video for Parker Braun. This guy would be a project of sorts due to him needing to get bigger to play in the post, but he comes from the same high school as Ben Richardson and Clayton Cluster (The two Loyola Chicago Guards) and also has a brother who is a year younger (Christian Braun), who seems to be a really good guard...

They might need a little advice from somebody is how I see it. Check out the transfer list now and growing everyday. Looks like they make a lot of bad decisions .

RE: Recruit Updates
Spring signing period begins April 11. We've been in a dead period since March 29 and recruiting opens back up on April 5. I expect us to start hearing some more names quickly if the early targets don't sign. Maybe we get some good news by the end of the week or at least hear of some visits being planned.
