I got to see Sampras and John McEnroe play an exhibition. Lots of fun. Agassi was my favorite but I never saw him in person. What event(s) did you see them at?

i was lucky enough to see them play each other in 95 at the us open. it was a graduation gift to go to the open in ny...and got lucky!

wish i could have seen mcenroe...that dude was nuts, but entertaining

I got to watch Messi back in 2011 when he was at his peak. The guy was just amazing with his ball control and balance in traffic. No defender could tackle him down and he didn't go down (or flop) at all.

I got to watch McEnroe, Sampras, and Agassi in exhibition some years back at Madison Square Garden. Agassi is my favorite play of all time - second is Stefan Edberg.
Just realized I said the same thing like TheEastisPurple :)

I was watching Bayern Munich play some Ukrainian team this week and kept thinking man if they had a real striker like Messi or Ronaldo they would be unstoppable. Then after the game ended I concluded that if they catch any of the Spanish teams at their peak it would't really matter.

holy shite....you just reminded me about getting to watch Pele when he played for the cosmos and they came to StL.....I was around 10 or 11 then and it was during a xmas visit.....we had already moved....

Pele was a major influence in my life......I was born with a ball on my foot....

for those that understand soccer in StL, Vianney was my goal as a child....then I got shoved into a shitehole that didn't have soccer.....so pops and the former wku AD (was the southern miss intramural director at that time) started the HYSA (hattiesburg youth soccer association)....pops did it for me.....great men and fathers they still are....

ah the memories.....they continue to flow (thank goodness)

RE: OT: silly season....favorite pro and collegiate athletes you got to watch
wow another few....all golf related and in person....

played a practice round with Azinger before he was 'Zinger and battled Payne Stewart at HCC when we held the Magnolia Classic opposite Masters' weekend....back then, the members were biatches to the point of not shutting the course down for an entire week (they had to play with a member)......that shite would never happen today....watched Nick Faldo (still not impressed....his glib is like stale bread)....Stads was pretty cool.....

was standing amongst a packed 19th hole crowd at HCC during a rain delay watching the Masters finish in '86.....completely shite-hammered (I was 20 yrs old and the legal age was 18 at that time....oh yeah, I was a college student too) standing next to Steve Nicklaus as we watched his father win the Masters....the high fives and hugs would look 'gay' to those that don't understand.....that may be my favorite and luckiest (to experience) story of any

random 19th hole story......bus cook (favre's agent) used to fk with me so bad when the 'big' group would settle bets.....only b/c I could whoop his ass as a young punk....had to tug for his money twice 03-wink

now I really remember how much fun it was to be a boy.....

thank you pops!

a tad OT in an OT thread.......just watched the 30 for 30, 'of miracles and men'

I remember the "miracle on ice" like it was yesterday....was jumping up and down screaming as Al uttered the phrase.....is probably my favorite underdog success story during my lifetime

what I didn't know was the story behind this documentary....it's about the development of russian hockey and ultimately what that game meant to the other nation.....

this one is a 'must watch' IMHO....it just became my fave 30 for 30 for so many reasons.....

I wish I had some electives like that at LVC. Our general eds/ electives are known for being incredibly difficult. Many students transfer because of the toughness.

I hope so. I tend to be very nostalgic, so everything in the past speaks to me more than the present. I even wrote Ace Parker (Duke All-American Halfback in the 1930's and 1940 NFL MVP)a letter for an autograph, a year before he passed away. He sent back a signed card. What a gentleman.

The USFL documentary is my favorite. Excellent piece.

the USFL piece is another great one......it's scary how almost nobody mentions Steve Young or Jim Kelly among the 'greatest'.....it pains me to think what Herschel coulld've done.... (all referencing if they would have gone straight to the NFL)

I hate the donald 03-wink

I know it's a homer reply, but I giggle a little every time I see Devon Johnson carry the ball. He is really fun to watch. And of course we got two years of watching Randy Moss develop which was as amazing as any player out there.

...nothing wrong with being a homer when it comes to this thread......is why I started it.....personal stories are really good in my world.....

the Rand U 30 for 30 was well done too....

I always liked Moss (I place him in the top 5 all-time receivers) and DJ is one bad-ass mutha in the makin' if he can stay healthy....that's the biatch for RBs these days.....every position is bigger and faster now....it only takes a micro-second to end a future/current career....that mass + speed thingy has changed the way the game has to be played in today's world...

RE: OT: silly season....favorite pro and collegiate athletes you got to watch
Saw a lot of Big 10 hoops growing up but the Michigan Fab 5 vs Illinois stands out as well as the Michigan team after Webber went pro. Seeing Bobby Knight coach vs Illinois and the whole Assembly Hall (the real one in Illinois) giving him he'll whenever he did anything. The Flyin Illini team. Seeing Hersey Hawkins at Bradley was fun too. Seeing many Chicago teams was alway fun. I was never able to see MJ in old Chicago Stadium and I will always regret that. United Center is nice but Chicago Stadium was unique. Seeing the Cubs at Wrigley was and still is awesome. Saw all kinds of Bears players and opponents. Seeing Randy Moss the greatest WR in college and pros and I look forward to seeing him in Canton, OH. Being a student during the 1999 undefeated season was awesome and something I'll never forget.
