They cloned one of my credit cards and got $10k of gift cards from Walmart (a common use of stolen cards). I paid nothing but the thief got $10k and will Never get caught for that one.
Herd,
You are exactly correct. I buddy of mine locally is with the FBI. The average get away was $5300 according to him.
Fist,
I had the same thing happen to me in Orlando two years ago. Inside job from a restaurant or the hotel. In a two day time, someone was a cloned card in Puerto Rico at a WalMart. Unreal!

You're right, but every branch operates more independently than they would like the general population to become aware of. The Army and the Navy could get together but neither trust the Air Force with is constantly trying to justify its own existence.

How do you guys know they'll never be caught? These sorts of crimes seem very easy to track.

Actually they are not, the individuals that do this use the cards once then trash them. They typically have 50 or more cloned cards provided by a central source (card data collected using skimmers) the individuals fill a backpack with all the prepaid cards less their cut and return the central source. The central source then ships the cards all over the country or even out of the country. I attend cyber security conferences twice a year and I always hear the number of people caught v. number doing this is very small.
