Also saw that abc33/40 (I think if not Fox6) at 10 will have some kind of short spot on Bham Dome & I'd imagine there'll be some kind of UAB side to it

Is someone lobbying against the dome in Birmingham, because the economist on the video clip was all doom and gloom if we every build a dome.
Charlotte loss $17k last year...see it doesn't work
if someone goes to an event at the dome then to uptown, that means they aren't going to Barons game....well N.S. SHERLOCK!!!! It's called personal finances, scheduling, and personal preference.
This state kille me!!! People talk about how we are soooo far behind, but don't want to do what it takes to move ahead.
And one more thing, at that 1:30 mark when they talk about return of college football the one and only clip is ua and au.
Here's a clip to the video:

But, almost all of these nay-sayers have a long list of high cost infrastructure and public service improvements they want -- all with no taxes added to pay for them. More police and fire protection, newer schools and better teachers, smooth streets kept freshly paved, top rated water quality and modern sewer service are among things I have heard listed. All of these desirable things cost a lot of money, and they expect them to "just happen" for what we already pay in the lowest taxed state in America.
Is there a risk involved in any new venture? It will take some time for a B'ham MPF to find its place in the trade. Other amenities will have to be added around it over time, but if nothing is built, nothing will be produced to increase local tax revenues. An increasing list of new and improved attractions to bring people - with their wallets - to B'ham is the answer to increasing local revenue to build or maintain what we say we want.

The success of new convention facilities will also be impacted by the stupid idea currently being considered of a lodge and conference center at Oak Mtn State Park. OMSP is a green oasis in a sea of concrete strip development, so to disrupt its natural peace with a 175 room lodge, conference center etc, when it is already surrounded by full service hotels and near Ross Bridge, Marriott, Wynfrey, and Bham convention facilities is just a really dumb idea. The feasibility study for the lodge says that it will rely on leads from the Birmingham Convention and Visitors Bureau, but the problem is that Bham is counting on those very same leads. Ruining the pristine nature of OMSP to rob Peter (read Hoover and Bham) to pay Paul (read Pelham) is one of the dumbest development ideas I've ever heard of. Those in favor of a successful MPF for Bham need to fight the City of Pelham and the spoiling land grab of our beautiful park.

That's the feel I got from him as well - seemed like the whole thing was more anti dome than neutral or pro. I wonder if the PR people UAB is paying for Watt's came up w/ this???

It is probably reasonable that the longer the MPF "drifts at sea", the more likely alternative projects will be put forward -"If not that, then how about this." There is obviously a market in the area for some capacity of convention center and someone will eventually seize the day. There already is - or was - a similar type of convention facility to the OMSP south of town, but I can't recall the name though I do recall that it was church related.
B'ham NEEDS the MPF for its own future development as a convention site, and it NEEDS to be able to host the size of convention to put it in competition with Atlanta, Nashville, Charlotte and such and it needs it yesterday. That B'ham is still the largest city in Alabama is due more to the slow growth of other cities than its own growth. If the MPF is not built, it may further stagnate the city so that the slowly growing other state cities catch up to it like Aesop's tortoise caught and passed the hare.
