RE: Why are you a fan of ODU sports?
There is a strong sense of community on these boards among Monarch fans, many of whom were fans before some of us were born. We've seen each other at the various home and away sites and celebrated and cried together.

I am thankful to learn so much about each of you, your origins and stories about how you came to love our Teams.

It helps me understand the passions for and against conference affiliations, athletic spending on which sports, stadiums, coaches, and that of our competition over the past decades.

Thanks everyone and Let's Go Monarchs!!!!

I have been reluctant to pitch in on this but reading the other posts it seems to be kind hearted enough for me to throw in. I started going to ODU b-ball games Dave Twardzik's soph. year. At that time they played a lot of games at my HS and we could go for free. Although I have always been a football guy first, I loved the run-and-gun style of Sonny Allen plus Dave T. and I was hooked. Then came the Field House but one way or another I was still able to see a lot of games (often thanks to Dr. Jarrett who just gave me & a friend tickets). During that time and after they were Nat. Runners-up and then National Champs. Things continued to go well for the men and then there was the Women's Team exploding on the national stage. I went away to play football in college, then on to grad school. I started teaching/coaching in TN but continued to follow ODU b-ball and looked for a job back in Tidewater. A few years passed and I returned to VB to teach & coach. Lucky for me, my wife who was/is also a sports fan got a job at ODU. Jump forward 30+ years and we are both retired but still committed fans and we were both extremely happy ODU brought back football.

I'm an ODU fan. I buy tickets, I show up, I stand, I cheer, I boo the other team, I go home. I follow this routine several times a year. What about you? Oh wait... Go Huskies!!

For the rest of you, Lady Monarch Basketball at the Field House pulled me in. I hope one day the men will reach that plateau ...... or at least make it to the tournament next season.

Didn't you read my first post. I graduated from ODU. Why on earth would I support the Huskies just because I live in seattle? You must have seen a post or two that indicates I'm a Redskins fan... and the Seahawks have been to three superbowls since I've lived here. I'm still loyal to my east coast teams... that's why I'm on these boards?
If you've been in seattle, you'll understand that UW and Seahawk fans are annoying and arrogant. I have no love for the Huskies and like Washington State a little bit more actually because they're the underdog in the state.

I was out there a few years ago in early September. Not a cloud in the sky. Love those crabs at Fulton Market they steam and crack for you. Bought a couple and sat on a bench over looking the water. That's livin large baby
