He has pretty much been against every coach that has ever coached UAB. In some cases, he was just ahead of the mob, but generally it is because he is an extremely pessimistic person.

Poor Tibber. You know Haase signed an extension through 2019.

RE: Tibber
I like Haase.

I wasn't a fan of his substitutions early on this season, but I think we're definitely moving in the right direction program wise. We're not going to return to form overnight, but, even after these back to back losses, I'm still feeling pretty good going forward.

What is it do you think he could do better?

2012-13: 16-17, 7-9, Quarterfinals
2013-14: 18-12, 7-9, First Round
2014-15: 13-13, 9-4, ???

Should we make at least the semifinals, I would call this season a success especially after the 4-9 OOC slate.

Definitely. OOC was a disaster, but Haase was mixing and matching guys all over the place. Once conference play started, he got a rotation together, and we have been doing pretty well ever since. Nobody is happy about losing to Rice and UNT, but we are still in good shape for a top 4 finish and a first round bye.

WTF did everyone expect? I think the most optimistic prediction was the NIT. That was before Frazier departed. I said it would be a tough game. We won twice there by one when they were bad. It took double OT to beat us with a more experienced team after Brown fouled out. Get a grip.

Well you are being far too rational about this. Fire Haase! He can't coach, recruit, or use his timeouts correctly.

Several of us said before the season that this team would likely struggle on the road because we had no real tests OOC. That turned out to be the case. We are still in very solid shape for a top 4 after the most recent losses. That was always a goal in conference this year.

Need a big crowd on hand Thursday. Also the streak no one is talking about:

Our NCAA-leading "Fire Ray Watts" home streak is at 10. We must extend it.

That's something that I think gets looked over about our scheduling under haase. We had no true road test until middle-late December at Chattanooga and we got blown out. Last year we didn't have a real road test until late in OOC. We need some road games earlier in the season to get us tuned up..

Everything is still in play but losing these two games is a big setback IMO. We should be past losing two games in a row to subpar teams.

In defense of Haase, he scheduled this season like an elite program would (elite neutral site tournament, virtually no road games). The team was a little too green to benefit from the two road games we played OOC. Expectations should be very high next year. I am worried about recruiting given the unknown state of UAB Athletics. I hope we are able to announce the return of football and CUSA status by spring/summer.

Well, last time I checked we aren't anywhere near an elite program. I think a few more road games would've made sense, even if it mean playing at usf and Illinois state.(of course that then becomes our OOC home schedule sucks... A bit of a lose lose proposition I guess). In the end, I doubt it really has an effect on our season, we are just learning these lessons in conference this time around.

Recruiting should be okay right now. Dirk should come in and be a big part of our team. IT would be really helpful to get another big in addition to him. If not, we can always hold that scholarship if need be. By the next recruiting class, we should know exactly what our status is. Barring a mass exodus this offseason, we are in excellent shape for the next three years at minimum.

Rice is playing much better now and I didn't expect UAB to win this game. You had to see it coming or you just haven't been paying attention to Rice lately.

Yes UAB could have won both games but it not surprising that they didn't. We all know the road is much different than being at home. And this is still a young team that still doesn't know how to win on the road consistently yet.

They had to accept the Atlantis invitation. I think they received two million for playing in that tournament.

I'd be surprised if we aren't favorites to win CUSA/other conference the next three years, unless we move to the OVC.

How does the old saying go? "Dress for the job you want, not the job you have." I think that same mentality applies here. Top recruits want to play that type of competition. It makes them better players. Conference play (when you are in a lower conference) becomes easier. And you play the elites early enough that you just might escape with a win that will look really good later in the year.

As long as we are in a league that the only absolute way to make the tournament is by winning the conference tourney, then the risk is very small to play a killer OOC in return for teaching your team how to play on that level.

Haase is doing things at UAB like he's been a part of at Kansas and UNC...I don't think that's a bad thing at all. If you want to be an elite team, you have to do what elite teams do.
