Giving up only three runs in three games is outstanding! Is our pitching that good this year, or are Western Michigan's bats that anemic?

Our bats weren't doing much in the finale tonight, but we managed to get 2 runs in in the 8th inning and got a scare, using 2 new pitchers in the 9th and won with the tying score stuck at second base. Our big hit came after our guy was down 0-2 with 2 on and 2 out,, and finally got a monster hit on a 3-2 pitch to knock in the 2 runs.

I noticed that the "tink" from the bats was far more subdued that I remembered. I looked it up and apparently there was a change made in 2011 that reduced the effectiveness of the metal bats. Is that what caused the different noise?

That it is! In addition, the college game features seams on the ball that are raised higher than MLB, reducing the potential flight of the ball. I was shocked to hear one of our guys hit one out at Regions-it's pretty tough to do.

They switched to flat-seamed balls this year that travel about 20 feet farther than the high seamed balls.
