Own your own company and employ people, try it.

What does this have to do with pointing out the fact that the OP does not include the statement the title of the thread said it does? Google the term 'economic development model' yourself, find me an article that shows it used interchangeably with 'economic system'. I didn't.

Is there not a single conservative on this messageboard who is interested in being an honest person?

hire someone, ok

Never said it was. Just stating my personal opinion that the UN is Anti American and Anti Capitalist. There are decades of reasons to be very suspicious of anyone that utters a word out of that organization from an American viewpoint. I have been very consistent here in my full disgust for this useless organization.

And that's fine, but there is a difference between being suspicious of what they say, and simply denying what they said. You're doing the latter.

Superflycat, what is your point?

Never denied anything. You jumped to that conclusion. 07-coffee3

Get the U.S. out of the U.N.

Start a new international organization with only democracies allowed to be members.

Ok, I'll bite and consider that she isn't advocating doing away with capitalism.

Even if that is true, those folks are advocating we trash how we get energy today for something, at least today, far, far more expensive AND replacing it with what? Not to mention they want non-third world countries to fund it all (wealth redistribution anyone).

I am not against lowering pollution, but I'm not willing to ruin an economy trying to meet some arbitrary targets and I'm not willing to pay extra while many pay nothing.

In the end, it's largely a bunch of academics listening to themselves talk without much getting done - unless our bumbling president signs us up and then tries to follow through.

You think Russia, China and India will sign up for their fair share? And even if they did, it would be no more than lip service.

This is something many of us have known, but it is refreshing that they are admitting it now.

Quote:At a news conference last week in Brussels, Christiana Figueres, executive secretary of U.N.’s Framework Convention on Climate Change, admitted that the goal of environmental activists is not to save the world from ecological calamity but to destroy capitalism.
"This is the first time in the history of mankind that we are setting ourselves the task of intentionally, within a defined period of time, to change the economic development model that has been reigning for at least 150 years, since the Industrial Revolution," she said.
Referring to a new international treaty environmentalists hope will be adopted at the Paris climate change conference later this year, she added: “This is probably the most difficult task we have ever given ourselves, which is to intentionally transform the economic development model for the first time in human history.”
The only economic model in the last 150 years that has ever worked at all is capitalism. The evidence is prima facie: From a feudal order that lasted a thousand years, produced zero growth and kept workdays long and lifespans short, the countries that have embraced free-market capitalism have enjoyed a system in which output has increased 70-fold, work days have been halved and lifespans doubled.

The giveaway, of course, has always been that the proposed “solutions” to climate change without fail are some form of taxation or redistribution of wealth.

while I understand the premise.....that won't work....

the ability to communicate and travel at will changed that concept long ago.....

as a country are now owned (debt)

it always comes down to money.....

everything else reminds me of soccer mommies....(which means we have to pacify and absorb painful rhetoric)
