UNC pays Duke over $27k for player vandalism
http://espn.go.com/college-football/stor...paint-mess

Quote:Paint damage from North Carolina's victory celebration at Duke in November cost more than $27,000 in repairs.

About $22,000 went to replace the locker room carpet, according to documents released after records requests from media outlets. Repairs also removed "UNC" written on walls and paint from the practice field.

Quote:UNC apologized and said it would pay for repairs. Athletic director Bubba Cunningham and coach Larry Fedora wrote checks to split the $27,170.44 total.

Writing to Duke athletic director Kevin White, Cunningham said UNC took away players' meal money for a game, conducted a "decision-making seminar" and had them bag leaves in a neighborhood as community service.

Fedora will probably get on the radio and whine about the linked article being negative.

Still seems weird. There was a lack of supervision on Fedora part and to a lesser degree, Cunningham's part but I'm not sure why they should have to write the checks. At least not all of it. It seems like the players got off easy.

Just to add some fuel to this fire Cutcliffe never returned Fedora's call to apologize (which was Cunningham mandated).
Cunningham also included some photos of Duke vandalism done on the UNC campus the previous year in his letter of apology to Duke AD Kevin White.

Quote:To close his letter, Cunningham included a photo of spray paint damage to UNC’s South Building on campus – four pillars were tagged with the letters D-U-K-E on Feb. 19, 2014, before the Duke-UNC basketball game.

“The University of North Carolina bore the cost of sandblasting these pillars and did not make public comments of the transgression. I acknowledge we have no idea who did this, but I simply included it to demonstrate that all fans, teams, coaches, students, etc. need to appreciate and respect the rivalry.”

Primary difference is that the UNC football team was identified as solely responsible for the vandalism at Duke. There is no telling who did the damage on the UNC campus. So you can't blame Duke University for the behavior of their fans, but you most certainly can expect payment from UNC for the actions of official representatives of their school.

RE: UNC pays Duke over $27k for player vandalism
For all you know it was NC State students vandalizing UNC in Duke's name. I thought it was low class of Bubba to include the damage to South Building because it shows he can't seem to differentiate between an athletic team visiting another university and run of the mill students. UNC needs to ditch the PR advice firms and just start using common sense in how they handle problems.

They could have squelched the massive cheating scandal years ago, but instead they have played for time and drug it out years - hurting the academic image for the sake of the athletic image.

I suspect Bubba and Fedora got to right checks because Folt and the academic faction is tired of being embarrassed by the out of touch comments and actions by the athletic department. Even Roy's said some stupid stuff in the last few years comparing a loosing streak to the earthquake in Haiti and wanting to shoot NC State fans in the Dean Dome with a BB-gun.

Tone deaf is the best description.

There is a core of people surrounding UNC that are more interested in making money off UNC-Ch than they are interested in UNC-Ch's welfare. That happened at NC State 25 years ago and it's taken move than 25 years to recover.

That'll teach the players a good lesson...they had to rake out Bubba's courtyard before the Team Cookout.

It probably was state fans....typical.
