Students should not have to carpool or ride public transit to games on week nights.
If USBA was a great facility I could see an occasional weekend big game downtown. USBA is not a great facility, it is not a good facility, rather it is an out of date hockey venue.
This. UC or XU could be in the middle of a tournament run and he would want to spend half his show talking about baseball cards. What a clown.

Best bubble gum. Bazooka. None other compares.
Favorite Reds moment from the 1983 season. That nationally televised game against the Dodgers when Russ Nixon was caught giving a long, loving glance to Rich Gale.

I turned on 700 last week and he was talking about Chris Reitsma and Jung Keun Bong. He was reminiscing about Bong's start in a series in Oakland. I turned to classical music.

Almost like a radio version of The Onion, but unfortunately it's not a parody.

RE: UC signs architects to redesign arena
Regarding the Arena:
I was walking by 5/3 today and I couldn't help but think about how bad the outside looks. We all talk about the inside, but if we are going to preserve the building as it is, we absolutely must do something to the exterior appearance. Right now it is just a giant, ugly, hunk of bricks that blends in perfectly with the ugliest dorm on campus that is Dabney hall. Has anyone seen the Miami Valley Gaming Center? Place looks like more of an arena driving by than 5/3 does. We need to completely cover the bricks with some new material, put some spotlights around the arena, and make it look a little more like Vegas and less like the DMV.

I moved away from the nati over 12 years ago, from reading the comments its amazing to me that this clown is still on the air. I thought he was garbage when I lived up there, but I guess thats what the "majority" wants to listen to.

I was thinking the same thing. For a good example of something that could be done, take a look at "before and after" pics of the exterior of the Pit at New Mexico. They had the same problem and did a nice job making the building more attractive when they remodeled a few years back. I would post pictures but I don't know how.

It's really interesting to think about the context into which the Shoemaker Center was originally placed (and for which it was designed), compared to the context in which it sits today. Just look at the WXIX video introduction to the first game in '89 and observe the stark, harsh surroundings of concrete. Now 5/3 is boxed in by Varsity Village, new dormitories, and a vibrant, much softened urban campus. Any major capital investment should definitely incorporate new exterior design elements, not just for aesthetics, but so that 5/3 actually connects with the environment around it. Nippert achieves this brilliantly, as do a number of urban arenas across the US.

Can the architect design heated tunnels to walk to the Shoe from parking? Going to be freakibg brutal tonight. Single digits and windy. Girding my loins for the long hike in the Norwesta.
