yeah, it was a great run, from the strong non conference wins, the top 25 week, being in joe lunardi's bracketology as an at large 6/7 seed for weeks, and even as an 11 seed play in game the last 2 weeks, but it's over now, they were 1 loss to an everage team away from falling out of it. maybe if they go 6-1 or 5-2 the rest of the way then make a DEEP conference usa tourney run the could grab the last spot or an NIT bid. either way helluva season, wasn't expecting this gawdy record anyways, have really enjoyed the season and will continue to root hard and hope for the best with the post season. 1 game at a time though, just win the next one

I'm pretty bummed and taking this one hard. You're right though in that it has been a great run and the season has been even better than expected. I figured we'd hit 20 wins and it still looks likely. I just feel really bad for the guys that they did so well early on in the season, and then to choke 2 games away and have it all be for nothing is tough. They deserve better, but it was in their hands. If Jeff can get another big, then next season may be pretty good too.

Jeff jones is wearing VERY thin on me.
We were completely outsized and taken off the dribble time and time again and he never went to a zone once.
This might be why he was stuck at American for over a decade.
So far he's been a one trick pony with no plan B.
How you don't zone that team is absolutely beyond me. Or at least give them some kind of different look.
Just horrible horrible coaching and there's no other way to put it.
We can't win on the road when our coach refuses to make adjustments. Period. I honestly cannot overstate how putrid of a job he did tonight.
This game and the uab game he made zero adjustments defensively and the shooting percentages show it.
And his recruiting still leaves a lot to be desired as well. I'm decidedly out of jones's camp and squarely back in the middle after these past few weeks.
Everything good that I praised him for at the start of the year has been pissed away by his complete inability to make defensive adjustments.

If we cannot win road games... what business do we have dreaming of the NCAAT?
This loss hurts more than most. Drinking heavily now

Lets face it folks. This team is very similar to the BT team of 2011-2012. One star (Baze/Freeman) and a team that over performed. That 2011 team had minimal talent and BT was able to coach them to a CAA semi final game. hell, he made Nick Wright look like he belonged in a D1 program.
This year, JJ was able to coach up a bunch of guys and combined a weak schedule to get all of our hopes up. In the end, this team simply doesn't have the talent to compete. Did JJ have a terrible night tonight? You bet he did. But he is also working with minimal talent. Denzel is young and a work in progress. Bacote is a nice role player. Palamore has shown to be a 6th or 7th option. Mosley is ice cold. Baker is not a D1 starter. So JJ is making due with what he has.
Now...can he recruit? This was and remains the concern of hiring JJ. Time will tell.

18-5, we suck and that record was with 11th strongest OOC schedule. Some of you guys sound like VCU fans.

5-4 in the last 9.
4-5 away from the Ted.
But bigger than that is the "eye ball test." Which is used by the selection committee. This team plays a singular way. There is no adjustments in them.
It was fun while it lasted.
Hopefully next year we have the recruits to put it all together.

Next year will be a whole new look. Have no idea what that means though. Adding Stith, Talley, Pervier, Caver, Carver. Plus one more, hopefully big. That's a lot of new pieces to incorporate. Losing Ross and Arledge.

Just gotta scratch and claw for a 4 seed and an unlikely tournament run.

I'm still giving Jones the benefit of the doubt overall but you're absolutely right on this. Last night was like UAB and WKU in that we had no answer for the other team's style of play (also the same as Ill. St. but I'll let that one go and I didn't see the MTSU game). I can forgive losing to better talent or depth but to lose to worse teams because we don't have an answer to some facet of their game is inexcusable. Jones's half time adjustments won us a few games in OOC, we also won a few because the other team had inadequate adjustments. If you read comments from other C-USA fans you find that their teams play like they did against us every game. It seems like our coaches aren't doing enough homework and can't make the right changes.
That said, Jones has done wonderful work this season and he still has a lot of room left on my leash. He's clearly doing something right and next season is probably the first that I will really judge how he's doing. These will be his recruits and his program.

This is a fair question. people will be ripped for saying we can. People will be ripped for saying we can't.
I personally think we lack the overall talent to compete. Like it or not, I think razor made some keen observations about JJ's coaching last night. If we are to have any chance, JJ will need to be willing to adjust what he is doing. Change up the defensive looks. Go to a press. Drop into a zone. be willing to use Biberaj to attack the interior. bench Alredge the minute he shoots another 3.
Can we win it? Crazier things have happened. But this team seems to have lost its way.

I think we can, but I don't like our odds. We'd have to have a four game lucky streak. I think we're a couple of recruiting cycles away from a conference championship. I also think this league is a lot tougher than the CAA was. In spite of the abysmal pre-season record of some of the teams that are beating us now, I think the reason they're faring as well as they are is they have improved a lot since the pre-season. I don't think we have.
