They are putting up Angry Owl warnings in Bush Pasture Park. Those would look good in Tudor, HRS, Reckling, and the other sports venues.

My company's HQ is in Oregon, and we've worked with the City of Salem. I might have a connection...

I want one of those signs for home use!

I was "buzzed*" by an owl the other night while riding a mountain bike not far from my home.
I might NEED one of those signs for home use!

(*silent buzz - felt the wind from the wings before I saw him fly off.)

There was an owl in George Bush Park who used bike riders as bush beaters. The owl would coast along behind the biker and pounce on whatever was stirred up in the grass along the trail. Pretty neat.

Here's a link to an article about the signs.

Quote:At least four people have reported getting scratched and scathed by the unusually aggressive owl over the past couple months near Bush's Pasture Park and Soap Box Derby hill.
...
After news spread of the odd attacks, MSNBC's Rachel Maddow show picked up on it, causing the story to go viral online. Maddow created a funny sign and suggested that the city post it, to warn unsuspecting walkers and joggers.

I don't have any specific connections with the Parks Department, but since I live in Oregon, I can ask around. It would be a fun sign to have!

Just looking at it, it looks like you can just order something like this. A quick search brought up roadtrafficsigns.com, and they allow you to design your own custom traffic sign, which is what it looks like Salem did.

If you're interested in getting one of these signs for home use, the Salem Parks Department is making them available as a fundraiser for playground equipment. They're a little smaller than the official signs, and made out of plastic rather than metal. If you're interested, here's the website to get one:

salemparksfoundation.org

You can also send a check for $30 to P.O. Box 5764, Salem, OR 97304, and write "owl sign" on it.

People are also having tee shirts made from the following jpeg:
http://www.msnbc.com/sites/msnbc/files/owl_sign.jpg

Who knew that angry owls would be so popular?

Facilities Dept. should get a couple of these. They closed down the path between Rayzor and Sewall because of an aggressively territorial Owl a few years back.

Terror Owls? that would make a memorable teeshirt. Reminds me of War Owls. I didn't know owls were territorial, but it seems apt for our mascot.

It would be fun to see the student section at Tudor in those T-Shirts...heck even Sec 103 would look good in them.

Okay Tiki. As the instigator of Sectional Owl shirts you are in charge of getting them. That yellow will look good on a dark blue tee. I will happily. Reimburse.

Is there a T shirt available to buy already or do we need to have one made? If we need to get it made, I think I can get one made and available for order.

They have to be made. It's not difficult, but all that's provided is the image.

Sounds good. Why don't you open a new topic to solicit ideas on ideas for color, sizes, image size, etc.

RE: OT-Anyone Know Someone In The Parks Dept of Oregon?
About 15 years ago I was jogging on a greenway here in Raleigh and was hit by a hawk It took some nice gouges out of my scalp on the way by. Maybe my bouncing hair looked like a rabbit, or maybe the bird was just a protective female. Whatever the case, I never saw or heard it coming. I don't think a sign, while entertaining, would have been particularly useful.

But it is a pretty cool sign.
