Cincinnati yes. Memphis, don't see it.

With Memphis surging in football- if they ever were going to get in, it'd be now.

I wouldn't say New Mexico St all in for SBC is probable by any stretch of the imagination. The eastern schools I don't think want any part of that at all. I think in a lot of ways, if it was going to happen, it would have already happened.

As for NMSU...if the Sun Belt keeps taking a dive, they may need them....well, they already need them...just a few president's that want to be in a FBS league but stay with a FCS mentality.
Probably wouldn't be so hard to have ULL in a east division and have NMSU since they said they want to split the Olympics in 2 divisions.

CUSA's next move rides on:
1. Does UAB connect on the hail mary efforts to save football? If they do does CUSA wait them out? There was some serious talk (real administrators, not message board chatter) that Mackin had brokered a deal with UA Board of Trustees members to get the stadium proposal approved in conjunction with a move to the Sun Belt and Callaway was enthusiastic but Dr. Garrison vetoed because of the potential fan blowback. With Brian Mackin gone everyone involved in that discussion at UAB and the Sun Belt is now gone.
2. What do the TV negotiations look like? Even if UAB rises again, if the numbers work, going to 16 to let UAB shift to the east isn't implausible, Bankowsky has already advocated that in the past.

Sun Belt's next moves depend on whether an acceptable candidate emerges or a raid takes place.
Rumor mill has said Idaho and NMSU have been told extending their contract past 2017 is unlikely (notice isn't due for about a half year).
If Sun Belt is raided, it likely comes from the west and that's where NMSU's all-sports support comes from, losing a western member makes NMSU even less likely.

Listening to this, Long is saying its hard to predict but in the short term there may be some tweaking as 1. The effect of the college football playoff and 2. TV revenues for a conference.

I don't think he has the Sun Belt or CUSA in mind when he said that.

BYU and Boise State

Doesn't make sense to leave WVU on an island. Cincinnati plus BYU or Colorado St is more likely to the Big 12.

Zero chance of either happening.

The UH administration and the Hawaii legislature are in a fight over how to cover the cost of the athletic program subsidy, which is smaller at UH than at most peer schools, but larger than in the past because Norm Chow's struggling football team is generating reduced ticket and donation revenue. The administration wants a special appropriation from the legislature to cover Title IX and travel subsidy expenses. The legislature wants UH to keep eating the costs out of its general funds.

The deficit forecasts and cost-cutting proposals being surfaced by the administration are meant to put pressure on the legislature. The strategy is as likely to backfire as it is to succeed. One thing for sure is that dropping football is no longer on the table, since despite the revenue decrease, it still makes money.

A shake up does not necessarily mean an actual move. People read what they want to in these kind of statements. His choice of words is very deliberate.

This could mean anything. It could mean some minor movement within the P5 (like the movement of some non flagship programs for the sake of enhancing markets). It could mean the moving up of G5 for the sake of securing markets and pieces of markets, or it could be just the beginning of talking points should the Big 10's contract negotiations spring another round of movement. We'll just have to wait and see. The important thing is that Jeff Long said it. He's not a big talker so there is something brewing.

You realize what forum you're posting on, right...?

By the time this thread has run its course, we'll have Memphis replacing Vanderbilt in the SEC, relegating the Commodores to Sun Belt status.

Exactly. The motto of this board could be, "Making Mountains Out Of Molehills Since 2004." 07-coffee3

Or some P5 schools drop down not wanting to compete with FCOA.

RE: McMurphy Tweet
Intra-G5 expansion/movement would not typically count as a "shake up" worthy of a McMurphy tweet. And certainly not something Jeff Long would allude to.

And intra-P5 movement would be a huge deal, not a "little bit of a shake up."

This has to be P5 raiding of G5/BYU. The Big 12 is on deck.

This doesn't Have to be anything. Your desire to see that particular event happen is clouding your viewing of the statement.

A shake up is not proper usage for movement. A shake up is simply a shake up, something you do to get things moving.

It is not an act of realignment movement, it is an act designed to help future movement, if anything at all.

So what would the divisions look like? This would be a kick in the nuts to the Big!

Now imagine Notre Dame joins for football and we also get Rutgers!

Boston College
Notre Dame
Syracuse
Rutgers
PSU
Pitt
Maryland
Virginia Tech
Virginia
Louisville
North Carolina
North Carolina State
Duke
Wake Forest
Clemson
Georgia Tech
FSU
Miami

A hell of a well paid conference! 07-coffee3

Better yet - Imagine that we don't get Rutgers!
