I hope its a winning bid. Still center-ish in the conference footprint, and I'm sure the economic stimulus would be welcome in the area.

That would be a great place to have it. Biloxi isn't Vegas, but they do have enough to make it a pretty fun trip.

Pretty sure there was mutual interest in putting the Sun Belt tournament there at some point, but that got derailed by Hurricane Katrina or some other outside factor, don't recall for certain. I actually had a great time at the two SBC tourneys I went to in Hot Springs, AR but was definitely bummed to miss out on Biloxi, I hope this happens.

I agree, this would be a good location to make the new home of these tournaments for CUSA. Biloxi's brand new baseball park (along with the renovated after Katrina convention center) plus the casinos and beaches nearby in a somewhat central and warm location means fans have more incentive to travel. This is a winner for CUSA.

RE: MS Gulf Coast bidding on 2016 basketball and baseball tourneys
At the lunch yesterday where those TV interviews took place, McGillis said the current basketball tournament format of the men & women playing at the same time was likely to fall by the wayside. An official vote won't come until the summer meetings, but at the most recent meetings, the prevailing sentiment was that the necessity of 2 separate venues was too limiting when it comes to potential locations. He said he expects the tournaments to either be separated or remain in one location but with a staggered men's and women's schedule. He also said that there was little support for playing the tournaments on member campuses because the coaches don't like playing the games with a team having a full-on home court advantage.

When asked (by me) if Hattiesburg's/Biloxi's more central location within the conference was an advantage when it came to landing tournaments, he stated that travel distance hasn't been a key issue when it came to site selections in the past, although he did think it worked against El Paso's most recent bid. He added, however, that he thought it was something USM could do a better job of selling.

I hope fans make it out to Birmingham, it should be a good sign if the tournament can be successful at a central location and show support for UAB athletics. On the numbers side, UTEP did sell more ALL SESSION tickets for the Cusa tournaments than all the other schools average attendance except ODU, so hopefully it doesn't hit our bottom line.

Whoever makes the highest bid should hold the tournament, plain and simple.

I would be interested in this. I've never gone to a conference tournament, but hoops, the beach, and some table gaming is an enticing trip.

I could get on board with this...Also I like Norfolk area, Charlotte, Nashville for future CUSA touranaments...We have some potential good locations for future CUSA tournaments...Would like to see a rotation between those 4 areas...

Mary's is a must do if you visit the coast for the first time.

Harbor.....just wanted to give you thanks for providing additional local knowledge on this board.....lots read, lots don't post, lots can yield a lot....it's important in this day and age

You and STUD contribute really good info!

back to the thread title.....the bolded has easily been our achilles heel over the years.....

I like big mac's strategy.....I may have jumped the gun (my opinion regarding funding) with the yurt renovation and how it was released.....however, I like his overall strategy....

I've been pining for a 'coast host' for years now....

like the renovation proposal, the residual will most likely become a measurable positive - that in some parameters - is a negative measurable at that particular moment.....looking past the present is what he is showing me....this town needs more of that!
