Did Baker start 3/3 and finish 3/10? Regardless, this offensive philosophy is garbage. 3 assists on 25 fg. 0.25 a/t ratio.

I was following the play by play and he bricked everything late. Live by Baker, die by Baker.

WMU missing shots and getting many rebounds. This team does not play hard. They play and compete but are not fighters. Blame Monty the players it doesn't matter, they are a failure as a bball team. So many wins they have left on the floor.

No doubt about it. This is a soft team. Good to see some offensive progression today but man is this team soft.

It is not offensive philosophy or strategy. Monty is not re-inventing the wheel. Guys are getting great looks, you have to make shots over a full game. You can't give them second chances. As I said, blame whoever but it's a lack of heart, want too, will to win.

The small change in makeup of this team has changed the dynamics of this team significantly from this year to last year. Balls and Bolin out, Johnson/Orris/Maric in. Yeah the offense is a little better, but it does not quite offset the "hustle/effort/grit" dynamic from what you lost. I think some including myself figured that the offense gains from this year's team would offset or even surpass what you were losing defensively.

As long as the guy with the most energy, effort and passion for the game is the coach, you will not win! Toughness, it separates the winners from the losers and we currently are still losers.

I hate when people argue vague things like "toughness/will/passion" It always reads to me like a person doesn't know what to say so they use some sort of intangible thing.

It's an unprovable argument that leads nowhere.

Sometimes it's as simple as they aren't good.

Good basketball players win games, not tough big hearted ones.

WMU player miss shot and rebounds his own miss over and over that is lack of toughness by NIU. Not losing the ball when you are bumped that is toughness. Not letting a player drive to the basket that is toughness. Rebounding that is toughness.

Okay, they are not good and they lack heart and toughness. The future is not bright, especially with Highsmith out next year. I don't see us being good with Monty as the coach.

Yes. NIU isn't very good. It's not that they don't try hard.

I could also say it's positioning and strength. Those are actual things.

So there is only one good team. Everyone has lost a game. Positioning is a thing but you have to often fight for good positioning. NIU has lost so many close games which says their talent is pretty equal to their opponents. The difference between winning and losing is?

To get a home game in the post season NIU has to 1) Run the table at home and 2) win 1 more road game

Also, toughness isn't about being a over-achiever(Rudy) good players can be tough also. Most good players are tough. Good teams also dominate the 50/50 plays.

Don't listen to Dan Bernstein, there is such at thing as team toughness and grit. Playing good defense is not just luck that an opponent missed a shot, teams create good defense , its not just a function of another team missing shots.
