Task Force RFP
Here's a link to the entire RFP sent to accounting firms. I hadn't seen this posted yet.

RE: Task Force RFP
I like #6 in Exhibit 4: No one that has graduated from a UA system school can work on the project.

A lot of UAT graduates in those accounting firms locally. Smart thinking to avoid any bias with that clause, I would credit Messina, as he knows how those firms work.

Yep, also glad they didn't send the RFP to PWC to avoid conflict of interest.

Yeah, Its nice that they don't want to go with the lowest bidder. Hopefully they will get some good thoughtful proposals from people who are able to really dig into the data.

That sounds great and all, but Alabama has the best Accounting school in the state. That's why so many Alabama grads work at the local firms. I would also argue UAB has the second best Accounting school in state but I am biased since I got my Accounting degree there. This will extremely limit the number of people available to work on this project.

UAH has a really good business school as well.

I don't know much about UAH's Accounting program but the requirement also eliminates UAH grads from working on this project.

http://best-accounting-schools.com/alabama

According to that website, that would eliminate graduates from 2 of the top 5 and 3 of the top 10 Accounting schools in the state. Alabama is ranked in many top 20 Accounting school rankings nationwide and UAB's Accounting is highly regarded for a school of UAB's size as well (especially the online Accounting program). It's like they're excluding the best and brightest from the project.

Edited: Really, the gap between Alabama's Accounting school and every other Accounting school in the state is huge. Anyone who went to school simply for Accounting, researched the schools, and had no other extenuating circumstances would choose to go there even if they weren't Bama fans. I find it hard to believe this is in the best interest of this study.

RE: Task Force RFP
I don't. There are other accounting schools in the country. It's definitely in the best interest. I also have a hard time believing any list that has Athens state listed ahead of UAH.

RE: Task Force RFP
That was the only list I could find that listed just Alabama schools. Alabama is the only school on any national rankings.

I would argue that if you're looking for an independent firm to handle this you should probably look outside the state of Alabama. Everyone in Alabama is going to have an opinion on this matter no matter where they went to school. Just removing UA system grads won't really change that.

RE: Task Force RFP
No doubt, but there are a lot of great accounting schools out there (Michigan, Notre Dame, USC, Texas A&M, etc.) It will be easy to find a great out-of-state firm without Alabama ties.

You dont have to go that far. Plenty of good accounting schools in Florida with no alabama ties. UF #9 in the country among public institutions and no reason
to cut the crimson tide any slack.

As long as it doesn't say "No one who thinks Cubby is an A$$hole and would stop at nothing to screw him and the BOT over," I think we're good.

Watts has zero intention of bringing it back no matter what the report says. That said we still have to go through the motions and prove our point.

One thing is clear. Clay Ryan needs to be off that task force pronto.

The National Alumni Society needs to call another vote of no confidence for Watts with direct language this time. He played the NAS president on this one in order to soften the blow. We need to call another meeting immediately.

Anyone know when the ATF is supposed to announce which firm they've selected?
