Knee Replacement Surgery
Has anyone on here ever had knee replacement surgery? If so, I'd appreciate hearing recommendations and experiences. Feel free to post publicly or to PM me. Thank you in advance

Dr. Todd Ream at Kalamazoo Orthopedics (I think they are part of Borgess now). I know a lot of people who have had great experiences with him (including myself repairing my broken fibula) and his sub-specialty is knee replacement.

BC, I had a knee replacement and it went GREAT. Your's will as well.

I can't play basketball anymore, but I can still shoot, climb stairs effortlessly, and jog. Before those activities were questionable.

You won't regret it. It took about two months until I could move around and three months when I felt very little sensation.

Just make sure you do the rehab and work through the pain, so when you recover, you will have full range of motion.

Thanks BB, I've heard horror stories, so thanks for the upbeat assessment.

RE: Knee Replacement Surgery
Those horror stories must be exceptions. Everyone I know who has had a replacement is very happy they did it.

Again, do everything they say at rehab and don't hesitate to ask questions such as what to expect, pain limits, and anything else that comes to your head.

Let me know how it goes.

Don't turn down or miss any opportunity to take the pain meds. You have to stay in front of the pain And take them before you go to rehab.

RE: Knee Replacement Surgery
I've had both a knee replacement and a hip replacement. If you want me to be honest, my knee replacement was a nightmare experience. Had to switch from pain meds to acetaminophen after 6 days because I got really sick on the opiates. I was not able to sleep through the night for six weeks because of the bone pain. Rehab was excruciating. It was five months before I felt fine. Would do it again, though. It's been 8 years now, and the implant is in great shape. Got back to nearly 100% range of motion.

Had my hip replacement on Halloween. Todd Ream of Borgess Orthopedics did my surgery, too. He's very personable, no attitude, and is a very well respected surgeon. He used an anterior approach for my surgery (as opposed to the traditional side incision) at my request. I was also able to have a spinal block instead of general anesthesia, also at my request. I was in the hospital for two days total (including the day of surgery), and then discharged to home. No rehab until the 2 month post op mark, when I was given six exercises to improve the action of my hip adductor muscles (which are cut during the surgery) to be done at home.

Medical science is amazing these days.
