Not been following the news I see... The ND Oil industry is leveraged up to their neck and the oil is expensive to get to. When Oil was 100$ a barrel it was time to party and build... at 55$ a barrel you don't add new wells but you can keep whats there.

Start to get into the mid 40's and lease payments will be missed. I've seen estimates of up to 20K layoffs by June unless the oil prices go up before then. The Saudi's are squeezing America's oil industry.

I hope that's not what happens and I hope that the the ND oil industry can hold on long enough for that area to diversify their economy but right now it's just an oil boom.
There is like five diesel refineries planned for the state. Two multibillion ammonia plants and an more expensive ethane cracker plant are going up. It's nothing like ND has ever seen. Pittsburgh is getting a cracker plant and their ecstatic about the economic benefit. ND will have an industrial boom for years because nat gas is cheap and has no where to go.

Oil rigs might be down to 50 rather than 190 this summer, but the oil patch needs a reprieve to get housing caught up. Most of the oil companies are hedged through at least this year. If prices are still low next year, we might have a problem. In another year, oil companies won't pay for housing like they do now.

The MAC isn't giving out affiliate FBS offers any more. They were abused by UCF, Temple, and UMass by short term flings. No benefit to the MAC so no more. Full members or no deal.

At least not in football. MAC has affiliate members in Wrestling, Soccer, Field Hockey & Swimming though

Nodak is heaps and hates NDSU. He is obviously biased. Pay no mind to him
NDSU has a rabid loyal fanbase, if they need X amount of dollars for something and ran a specific campaign they would get it ASAP

NDSU has a huge foothold in Minneapolis area (4million dang near) 50% of students come from that state. NDSU is a regional brand and is exploding in the last 4-5 years.

Ask central Michigan fans about the 44-10 whooping they gave them.

I don't think NDSU even wants to go FBS anyway, and it seems like most of their fans agree with that as well. There's certainly some logic in there since NDSU can play for a national championship in FCS, which isn't as dysfunctional as FBS football.

LakeBison what say you to the last paragraph comment above?

I live in MSP and other than when you play the gophers there is *0* interest in NDSU. UB does better in NYC than you do in the Twin Cities.

Yes agree no more Football-Only, but disagree that we/UMass abused it. In fact even thou we rejected it, it was our AD, who put in a clause that the MAC had to offer us a all sports invite at no cost. We have a real potential to be good this year and will miss the MAC. Regarding BB, if Temple did not leave before our first BB with the MAC, who knows it could have helped the MAC, which is the #10 conference. The A10 is #7 and believe the American is #8.

Sounds like NDSU and ISU are going to do FCOA for athletes, haven't heard about UNI yet. Are all Mac schools committed to doing this? If so, at what level?

The Mid-American Conference began discussions last spring on the issue of redefining an athletics grant-in-aid to include a cost of attendance component. Those discussions led to a joint meeting of the Conference's Presidents and Directors of Athletics in October 2014, where MAC's Council of Presidents ultimately voted to support such legislation. -- MAC

The MAC will provide FCA for Student Athletes

FWIW, FCOA schools, including the MAC schools, will have a recruiting advantage over non-FCOA schools.

I don't know which conferences might end up being non-FCOA conferences. The HBCU conferences will probably be hardest hit.

Otherwise, I have no idea about conferences within the MAC footprint such as Horizon.

FWIW, here is an article which divides the country into 'cultural regions.'

Half of the MAC is in 'Yankeedom' with the rest in 'New Midland.'

NDSU is on the border of ND/MN, the Yankeedom divide. No Iowa is in the 'New Midland.'

I'm bored (Lol): can we add NDSU and No Iowa (all sports). I want NDSU FB and No. Iowa hoops. :)

NDSU makes my heart beat faster in fall (and early winter); No Iowa in winter.
