It's almost (spring) football season for UC Bearcats

The University of Cincinnati football team will begin 2015 spring practice sessions Friday, Feb. 27 at the Bearcats' indoor bubble, the Sheakley Athletics Center on campus.

There will be 15 practices spanning just over a month, concluding with the annual spring game Saturday, April 4 (1 p.m.) at Sheakley. The spring game will be played outdoors, with the bubble by then deflated for its annual inspection and re-conditioning.

Nippert Stadium remains unavailable as it undergoes an $86 million renovation and expansion to 40,000 seats. UC played its 2014 home games at the Bengals' Paul Brown Stadium, with Nippert closed for renovations. The Bearcats are scheduled to reopen Nippert against Alabama A&M on Sept. 5, 2015.

UC went 9-4 this past season and 7-1 in the American Athletic Conference, as the Bearcats earned a share of the AAC championship. Tommy Tuberville will enter his third UC season with an 18-8 record as Bearcats head coach, with two bowl appearances. UC finished the 2014 regular season with seven straight wins, but lost to Virginia Tech 33-17 in the Military Bowl.

Were will the spring game be held? Sheakley or PBS?

The article says Sheakley. In this event, I wonder if the game is closed to the public like 3 years ago.

I think 3 yrs ago it was moved to Sheakley due to rain. 2 yrs ago it was at Sheakley and was a great venue for the spring game.

Well we are on track for another 50-point outburst on offense, including 3-9 from the free throw line and 15 turnovers. And some contend that we are a good offensive team. Bad defense tonight and horrific offense mean blowout loss. Liked that down 18 points, our point guard came walking up the floor, stopped and looked to the sideline for a play. How about pass and get a good shot.

I know alot if you may not like tommy but this criticism is excessive

Great, won't miss it. Hopefully, we have good weather like last year. I enjoyed last years as much as a real game.

Bearcats baseball @ 12 noon that day vs. UCF next door @ MSS. It should be a fun day.

IIRC isn't capacity at Sheakley about 1800 or so? We had 5,000 last year at PBS. Might get a bit crowded, which is better than not having anyone show up.

Not quite sure what the number is. But two years ago, they let people stand along both sidelines as well. Really cool to be that close to the action and hear the players/coaches go at it.

Many here are always talking about planting the flag in Dayton. Why not play the game this year at Welcome Stadium. It holds 11,000 which would be plenty. A short road trip.

Last year's Spring Game was the most enjoyable since the BK days. That was because they played a game instead of making it a practice session. I guess what also made last year special was we saw the unveiling of Gunner Kiel and those of us in attendance realized he was pretty damn good.

Some questions for the season as I see them:

- How will the defense fare with Coach Klinkscale calling the shots?
- Will anyone fill the shoes of Jeff Luc, Nick Temple and Terrelle Hartsfield?
- Will Gunner Kiel be able to stay upright? Who will take the reigns if he goes down?
- We have some holes to fill on the offensive line.
- Need overall improvement on special teams.

Ditto. If UC is really serious about building visibility in Dayton and if the metros are soon to merge, this should be one of a whole series of initiatives to plant the flag there. Make it an event--student buses, car caravan, charter coaches with designated "UC friendly" bars and restaurants there. Maybe even a community service project spearheaded by UC alumni in Dayton to coincide with this. Get creative.

UC must demonstrate a larger footprint than just Hamilton County; not just for continued growth, but to demonstrate to P5 folks that it isn't just a city school with limited reach.

Can anyone get the ear of the AD and see if we can do this? Six weeks should be enough time if UC gets it's butt moving. Please someone with connections see if this is considered. Being creative has never been a strong suit of our A Dept. IMHO.

Welcome is UD's home field, will never happen!

Why not?

Welcome Stadium is owned by the city, not UD. They pay rent.

Using your logic, no one could rent PBS last year because it was UC's home field.

Id be disappointed if our athletic department didnt at least try to strike a deal. This is the type of bold, ballsy move that could make a difference.
