Yep.

I've lost 40 pounds since last July (Dropped from 230 lbs to 190 lbs). I have always been active (I lift, run and do a lot of HIIT training) but could never get rid of the excess weight. I stopped all the sugary drinks (all I drink now is water and milk which I put in my protein drink every day) and have never felt better. I have also shaved nearly a minute off of a mile and can bench/squat more than I did prior to July.

Since the food is broken down prior to eating, the calories (and other nutrients) are more readily available (and easier digested) than if it was whole, natural foods (and no I don't mean organic, screw that noise).

I'm not suggesting ban it, but American need a better diet, science shows that. It's not coincidence we are all getting fatter as packaged food is easier to come by and we sit on our butts all day.

Gotta love that organic identity.

Americans do need a better diet, but that's all on them. First thing they need to do is make fresh fruits, fresh vegetables, and lean meat more affordable. I can go buy 4 apples, 4 apricots, 4 pears, 2 pineapples, fresh vegetables, and 10 pounds of hamburger meat and will spend $75 to $100 dollars. I can fit all of that in the girlie little carry basket. But for $100.00, I can fill an entire buggy with junk food.

LSU makes a valuable point.

It's cheaper to eat ****. That's why poor people are fatter on average. Hell, some folks couldn't afford to eat healthy if they wanted to.

I won't lie, I struggle. After mortgage, auto loan, insurance, fuel (which isn't nearly like it was, thankfully), and my utilities, I don't have much left to spend. I also pay for a gym membership to Anytime Fitness, but that's more of a need than a want. Oh, and I also pay child support. I don't struggle to eat healthy, I just struggle paycheck to paycheck to get that healthy food.

So what we need is a Mac 'N Cheese Czar. We'll create a new goverment agency to crack down on junk food producers. Oh, and a new Cabinet level position.

You can actually tolerate a LOT of starch in your diet provided that you watch your overall intake AND burn a ton of calories. The problem is that if your activity level drops, then you'll blow up like a blimp in a matter of weeks.

I'm not fat, but I've sliced about 10 pounds in 2 weeks. I want to become somewhat lean, but I won't lose that much weight as I'm also doing some strength work.

My diet is wildly inconsistent. I eat sewer food one day - and then have a perfect balance on the next day.

Sounds like me. Well, not the sewer food. I eat meat and vegetables every day for supper, and for lunch it's usually peanut butter sandwiches. I'll cheat on weekends, like pizza or something, then back to normal during the week. I started out at 240, I'm down to 235 but I do mostly strength workouts every day in the gym. My GF and I take every other Friday and Saturday off and go every single day outside of that. I finally got to 220 lbs on the butterfly and it feels like it's ripping my chest apart but it feels so damn good.

The pain I get is like a sick addiction and that kind of scares me.

Agreed. My shopping list is a little different and a little more expensive (for example, I only buy free range, hormone/antibiotic free chicken -- not the cheap, disgusting Tyson products), but we follow roughly the same theory. I grocery shop once a week, and my bill usually runs about $80-$100/week. Whenever I was in college and either didn't have time to cook, was too lazy, or didn't know any better, I ate out a lot, ate a lot worse, and it was probably 2-3 times as expensive.

I'm no "food snob", but I am amazed at what trash some people put in their body. McDonalds for example, I believe is utter poison and I know people that eat it 5+ times/week. Ugh. Same with most fast food. I avoid it at all costs, and will only eat it whenever I'm on the road and have no other options.

If more people would take the time to learn about what they eat, they would save a lot of money and be a lot more healthy. Read the labels. Know what to avoid.

Just cook your own damn food and if you are "too busy" during the week, take some time out on your Sunday and cook things you can freeze. I have no sympathy for those that don't eat well. I'm not lean, but my blood tests come back impeccable, so I can live with that.

Meh, I have sympathy for those without time. If you work 80 hours per week your eating habits decline. That's understandable.

I think that is one of the situations where how often you exercise etc begins to be more important.

Stress will help pack on lbs, especially when you are eating ****.

Honestly speaking, there really isn't anything worse than Mac n Cheese from a box.

True, but if you're working 80 hours per week it's usually a hard labor job where you're active. I went from 175 to 235 working 70 to 80 a week in the oilfield, BUT, what you can't do is get home, eat, and go right to sleep because that food sits on your stomach. That was my mistake.

Oilfield work is insane.

I gained 15 lbs when I first started work here in Montgomery. It was 80 or more hours per week working like a slave.

I forced myself to start a workout plan and stuck to it and that helped ease things off.

Now, I am at the point where I work almost off and on so it isn't a problem. I can got several weeks without putting in a real 40 hours, not counting travel. But, at the drop of a hat I am back to working around the clock for weeks or months on end.

No way in hell I could do 80 a week in an office... Lol

Yea, that's a lot. I eat fast food more than I should, not that much though. Killer for me is, I love bacon. I could eat bacon every day. My favorite is bacon stuffed with bacon with sprinkles of bacon on top. :-)

I did have my cholesterol a little high the last time, so I have to watch that. Otherwise I seem to be fine, but I need to get back to my running. I'm too lazy to do other exercises which seem like too much work to me.

I don't doubt it one bit, I would probably do better here after hours... But sadly I don't get any OT since I'm on salary, and though I'll go above and beyond, a whole week's worth of work for free would be pushing it.
