It wouldn't surprise me to see an all out race war in America before my lifetime is over.

That's certainly a reasonable expectation.

I watched that show because it was his first one and Booker looked uncomfortable the whole time there.

Corey Booker is a sitting US Senator. I can certainly understand his desire to not wade into the issue.

Not going to happen at any point above the lowest class in the USA. Middle class people are more worried about the "finer things" to focus on racial tension.

If the conflict were to ever hit Whole Foods, the police and wealthy classes would get involved and it would end quickly and absolutely.

I would be.

The chance of that ("all-out race war in America") happening isn't so negligible as to be discounted completely, but there are a lot of strong factors militating against it. Fact is, people of all races in America are living -- basically -- a middle-class lifestyle or better. Another fact is, pretty much everyone younger than 30-40 has lived with racial integration since birth, and accepts it as a given. Intermarriage and multiracial children becomes more and more common each year.

I admit that, about 20-25 years ago, I was not so optimistic. The riots in Los Angeles (1992), Crown Heights NY (1991) and elsewhere seemed like the wave of the future to me. Thankfully, that turned out not to be the case.

On a separate matter, what Bill Burr said -- profound historic changes are typically brought about by people with a willingness to act immorally or amorally -- is quite true. So true that I'm surprised that's even considered "controversial" to say it. But to paraphrase Orwell, we live in a time when speaking the truth is revolutionary.

There's not going to be a race war in America, despite agitators on both sides of the political aisle trying to stoke such fires. Why would Mexicans, who sacrificed everything so that have a nebulous status in America, attempt to take down a system they want for themselves and their children? If they are so willing to fight, why leave Mexico in the first place? And blacks only make up 13% of the US population. Such a conflict wouldn't even be worthy of the title police action.

MLK and Gandhi are 2 who brought about change via peaceful means. I think what's lost here is that it's not that violence is critical to moral change. The key here is that there is usually a charismatic leader who will drive the change. I can think of 2 off the top of my head that did it peacefully, and you can think of more that have done so violently.

I believe the will to power normally manifests itself on a larger world stage than a drive for altruism. Then again, with the start of major non-profits that touch the world (Red Cross, United Way, March of Dimes, etc) were started by altruists who had a significant impact on the world. But generally speaking, altruism tends to go the community level. It's people's innate desire to have power over others that drives the violence of the world.

I'd add Mandela to that list.

One thing that surprised me. Until I visited Durban several years ago, I did not realize how much time Gandhi spent in South Africa.
