A better answer than all of this extremely expensive and counterproductive nonsense would be to open the police up to a wider range of lawsuits and to increase public oversight. That comes down to state legislatures and each municipality making an effort.

This is just going to cause a fortune and turn the police into public school teachers.

This is like letting a wolf guard the hen house. Would any of these observers every tell on a cop? Let the people do the observing. neighborhood representatives and community organizers (such as myself). Let a panel of the people decide in real time if a crime is being commited. There should also be a direct line (think bat phone) to the DOJ.

What makes you think you have the right to view ANY of the footage if it doesn't involve you?

They aren't there to monitor it...most of those screens are connected to the interstate camera system to monitor traffic conditions.

just like with dash cams, you get your lawyer to pull the footage...it's not just open access, lol

Well... I don't like it. Why aren't "people of color" doing the monitoring? Look at the photo...this does not represent demographics in Memphis. This is the subtle everyday racism that Eric Holder has been speaking of.

lol, click the link and take a look at the lady running it...

They should be required to turn them on whenever they interact with the public.

They will be, and these 'issues' will be addressed once their usage becomes widespread. They aren't a perfect fix-all, but they'll help interactions for both Police and Citizens.
Yes. The state monitoring will make everything better. Check out George Orwell. Where did you graduate from?

....ugh jesus christ dude, what do you think a police officer is doing when he's interacting with you or me? He's monitoring us for the state. That's literally his job. Adding a camera to the mix doesn't result in more state monitoring, it simply provides an objective vantage point for the interaction between police officers and citizens.

And, as I said before, I think the biggest positive this will see is a sharp decrease in frivolous claims against the police, along with allowing us to stop those abusing their powers. That's what both sides want, right?

Will the cameras not work on white suspects? I'm confused as to why you even brought race into this issue, or why any actual conservative would be against this? You need to learn your own ideology.

Race was brought into the issue because no one gave a crap about the cameras until a black guy was shot by a white cop.

Well that's a silly and wholly incorrect statement. Maybe that's when you became aware of the push to monitor police, but the concept has been discussed thoroughly and for quite a long time. Hell, they've had dashboard mounted cameras for decades, this is just the next logical leap.

You should look into casting a wider net for your news/social information if you honestly think your statement is true.
