Some Alabama Judges refusing to issue any marriage licenses
This is pretty stupid on their part. Shutting down the ability of anyone to get a marriage license in their home county isn't going to help the institution of marriage, but simply drive up the cost of marriage. That higher cost will simply increase straight people deciding to not bother with the hassle.

And it won't even be effective in preventing them from being required to recognize same sex marriages. You see, they'll have to register wills and other probate activities related to marriages (straight and gay). Unless they want to not perform any of their activities.

And they'll probably also get sued. And will probably lose. http://www.al.com/news/index.ssf/2015/02...rt_m-rpt-2

RE: Some Alabama Judges refusing to issue any marriage licenses
Several Alabama Probate Court Judges have announced that they will simply defy the Federal Government and not issue licenses to same sex couples, while continuing to do so for opposite sex couples. These include the Probate Judges in Covington and Washington Counties of Alabama (Andalusia and Chatom). Look like Judge Ginny is going to have to issue some more rulings. Washington County is in Judge Ginny's circuit too.

I hope the taxpayers of those two counties enjoy paying money to liberal lawyers.

Memo to self...sell that piddling piece of property in Washington County. It, like just about every thing else in that sorry county is pretty much worthless. Just a property tax bill.

Good for Alabama standing up and doing the right thing. Baldwin County and the Redneck Riviera is # 1 on mine and the wife's list of retirement options.

This could lead to the government just getting out of the business of marriage, would is the ideal solution.

Baldwin County will be issuing licenses. If you'd like to see what kind of vibrant communities support nullification, might I suggest lovely LeRoy, Alabama?

Not really. Too many laws involved.

I thought laws were meant to be ignored by courts and law enforcement.

Why do you need a government license to get married? Is it just so the government can collect fees? Would there be legal chaos if the government didn't have to approve marriages?

Title to and inheritance of property are big considerations.

Lots of issues while they're living, too. Breakups cause huge problems if there's no applicable law.

Heard a Jeffco circuit judge asked what he'd do on Monday.

In deep southern drawl, "If we've got a big crowd, and the weather's nice, we might go outside. Lots of people like to get married in the park." 03-lol

Could be a showdown at the state level. Governor Doctor Governor Bentley said that the state would abide by the courts' ruling. Crazyass Roy Moore and AG Big Luther (snugglebuddies with Paul Bryant, Jr.) seem to indicate otherwise.

This is a really big one. Also, it'd have a pretty major affect on insurance policies I'd think.

Also I find it almost quaint that people who really against gay marriage still exist. It's like seeing an AOL email address or meeting someone who doesn't know what Netflix is.

Count me as quaint then, but even I know it's over. Even though I believe gay "marriage" spits in the face of God's design for humanity, I understand that the only way to have banned it was an amendment to the Federal Constitution. The full faith and credit clause should make it impossible for one state to fail to recognize a "marriage".

In a divorce how do they decide which one is the woman that gets to cash out?

It's done the same regardless of the gender of those involved. I know a guy who divorced a female cardiologist who could tell you all about it.
