RE: CFP refuses to change dates
How in the world does anyone support a schedule that most of the country is at work while the playoff semifinals are going on?

Put aside your "take that, ESPN!" blinders for a second and think about this logically. I guess I won't be watching the playoffs next year. That's just an embarrassing fail on the part of everyone involved.

People who really want to watch it will find a way to watch it. The NCAA tournament is played while people are at work...

Plus, there is always someone at work no matter when the playoff is.

Actually, yes, there is a solid amount, both in that there are still plenty of people working in the other time zones and those in the ET who do have to work that day are probably driving home.

Um... yes they are? December 31 (if a weekday) is a workday for the vast majority of people. Most jobs don't get it off as a holiday. People in the Eastern Time Zone are likely to be off work and headed home, and people in other time zones are likely to still be at work.

Yes, I realize that not everyone works an 8-5 M-F job, but a much higher percentage of people are going to be at work at 5 Eastern/4 Central/3 Mountain/2 Pacific on a Thursday than on a Saturday. It's ratings suicide to put a major college football game on during regular work hours. Yes, many people will leave work early that day, but a lot of people won't be able to. It baffles me why people are so against what seems like an obvious move. Who cares if it's ESPN, Fox, CBS, or whatever? Don't you want to be able to watch it? Don't you want as many people as possible to be able to watch it? Yes, I understand that even if they showed it at 4 AM some people would be working, but clearly a prime-time Saturday night game is going to get a lot more attention that a game that starts while half the country is still at work on a Thursday.

The NCAA Tournament comparison isn't very good, because it has 67 games and it would be too hard to spread them out outside of working hours. Even so, only games from the Round of 64 are on during work hours. The Round of 32, Elite Eight, and Final Four games are played on the weekend, and the play-in, Sweet 16, and Championship are played at night.

One other point that should be remembered is that if you are putting 3 games in day, most years people will be working. The only way around that its new years day games or days between games most years (next year being an exception).

JHN, I have worked a "9 to 5" office type job since 1999 when I was 20. I have never, ever had to work a full day on New Years Eve.. (Note I did have to work one NYE at my other job when it fell on an NFL Sunday; but that was not my "office" job. I have to side with Stever on this, and that always pains me 04-cheers

Where in the heck do these so called '9 to 5' jobs come from? All the jobs I know are 8 to 5. Getting a paid lunch hour must be nice....still cann't find a job that is 9 to 5.

Haha. Mine is actually 9-6, though I usually take a two hour lunch, and sometimes still leave at 5. That said some days I always am in til 10 at night, and I usually in at some point every day of the week. I work on commission though.

Wait... you work 9 to 5 with a 2-hour lunch... that's only 6 hours! Gee, what a slacker!!!

Sometimes I don't even come in until 10:00. Today I got in at 10:15

But yes I am a slacker M-F, self admitted so. But I do work when I am not at work, so I probably work 50-60 hours most weeks. It's just not all "work" so to speak 04-cheers
