RE: Gotta admit, this UAB Basketball team is pretty darn good!
Look at recent snubs of CUSA teams. It was not a lack of enough victories. It was a lack of enough good wins. Southern Miss was victorious enough last year. So was La Tech.
It would be stupid to include Out of conference RPI to seed tournament because it has been demonstrated that teams with funding can pick and choose their out of conference schedule. Some of that is luck also. Every conference uses league standings as a basis for seeding.
Most importantly we also need CUSA reps to NCAA be on the upswing and not be a team that was slumping in CUSA play. We want our CUSA teams to advance in post season and give our hottest teams the best chance to get there. Look at Charlotte's start the last three years. Big wins early in non conference. They were a dumpster fire at seasons end.

Either way you go we are screwed getting an at large bid in CUSA or for that matter any conference is not in P5 besides maybe A10...We have no margin for error, meanwhile an horrible team like Florida has 11 losses and still some consider on the bubble.....The SEC is garbage this season but will still have 4 or 5 teams in Dance....Just imagine if some of our CUSA teams had 11 home games non conf. and only 1 or 2 on the road entering conference play, we would too probably have 3 or 4 legit at large candidates like these P5 teams have..Its set up similar to college football in that the conferences that you are brainwashed to believe are good by ESPN will not leave their state until Jan., lose 10 games and get into tournament...Meanwhile our only at large candidate this season ODU has 4 losses but if they get a 5th they are done....FOr CUSA and other similar conferences, RPI is only one factor or tool committee uses, as we saw last season the selection committee can make up another factor as they go along to let another P5 team in and not include a CUSA team with an RPI in the 30s.....
Just a hunch, but we will once again be popular in the NIT this season as well as the garbage post season tournaments below NIT..

I actually got that term "dumpster fire" from a Charlotte fan, I think.

ODU is still in virtually all brackets despite looking quite mediocre of late. Non-conference results are the most important factor and that has been the problem.

Schedule better, win more games against good teams and CUSA will get more teams in the dance. The system is far from perfect but there are certainly established methods to earning an at large bid and it's generally fair.
You can't control how good a league will be, but a school has 100% control over their out of conference schedule and it's something I think should receive much higher scrutiny across the league.

Starting this year, teams have to run their Out of Conference schedule past a C-USA official.
