OT: A Tale of 2 Petrinos
yesterday Bobby Petrino caught a ton of heat for pulling a kids offer 2 days before signing day without notice offering him a greyshirt (wait a year before entering college, or pay your own first year)..and his high school coach was pissed and said he'd never let him recruit any of his kids ever again

http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap3000000...ina-school

but a story from around the same time shows his brother doing the opposite. Paul Petrino head coach of idaho got word that one of his recruits got cancer a week before signing day (he was told he would never see the field) he told the coaches they could pull his scholarship and do whats best for the team. petrino and the coaches refused and yesterday he signed his letter of intent allowing him to get a full scholarship to attend University of idaho

so not pulling a kids scholly because he is diagnosed with cancer is noble among petrinos....

interesting, not exactly setting the bar high are they.

yes it is, idaho is a rebuilding program and needs scholarships, and you are limited to only 25 a year, this kid will never see the field

and it was a non bidding offer (not an already signed LOI)...... and the kid offered them to remove his offer no harm no foul and that he understood that they had to do what was best for the school...it would have never made the news and everyone would have understood
but according to him they said
‘you've been with us this whole time,'” Malek explained. “Idaho is not leaving your side.”

to put it in perspective, at houston we wanted to bring in a high school qb but we didnt have the schollies to do it.. scholarships are so tight we decided to push it til 2016 and could only offer prefered walkons to jc's...his brother petrino literally pulled an offer last minute from another 3star rb without notice just to find a way to save a scholly

they gave up a scholarship they could have used (and desperatly need if know how bad they are) to help build the program..instead they did what was right by the kid...

if you dont consider that noble .....something is wrong with you

The scholarship Louisville pulled was subsequently offered to Tulsa's newest safety McKinley Whitfield who ended up staying with his original commitment. The kid must have been special if they pulled a pretty highly ranked RB's offer to go get him.

nah i dont consider it noble to just do the right thing. letting a kid that found out he has cancer keep his scholarship is a "bare minimum" on the class scale. if you think that qualifies as noble in the grand scheme of things, well, then....

A lot of programs, (probably most) would have wished him well, and moved on.

If my school pulled a scholarship to a young man who just got cancer, I'd cancel my season tickets. In a heartbeat.

this is what is wrong with society.... some does something extremely kind that most others wouldnt..i beat most schools would make him a honorary member or something meaningless but keep their offer..and the kid himself said he actually expected them to remove his offer (stop saying scholarship it was just a verbal commit) but they unquestioned stood by him...instead of appluading the nice deeds, you do the opposite, with so what attitude and try to take away from it

you need to read this article
http://www.theatlantic.com/entertainment...es/275407/

and find out what they did wasnt the bare minimum but way above what most coaches would do

Yes, because bad things also happen, let's not bring attention to a positive action someone takes. Such a useless perspective.

RE: OT: A Tale of 2 Petrinos
The offer was scholarship for football player. That deal was destroyed by cancer. Sucks horribly. But when the kid offered to waive it off, then Idaho went above the standard IMHO.

It DID happen at Tulsa to a roster player. Wilson Holloway retain his scholarship and was listed in the media guide as a member of the team until he died. When he lost his hair, the team lost its hair. This is what SHOULD happen, and I'm proud that it did.

His motto is: Just keep smilin'!

If you're not even going to try to address my comment, why quote it?
