Taken from the article:
Arizona State: Coming off an NCAA trip, the Sun Devils average less than 5,000.
Oregon: The Ducks are pulling in a modest 5,554 a game.
UCLA: The Bruins drew 10,006 — almost 3,000 short of a sellout — for a Gonzaga team then ranked No. 9, and average 6,075 in seven other dates, less than half the capacity of Pauley Pavilion.
USC: Rebuilding, the Trojans have been getting a tick over 3,000 a night.
Washington: With an improved team that should threaten the NCAA tournament, the Huskies attracted 6,199 for San Diego State, then 13th-ranked.
Washington State: After five home dates, you could fit the combined crowds into Beasley Coliseum. On his postgame radio show after a win at Cal Sunday, coach Ernie Kent pleaded for fans to support the Cougars.
Football attendance has also been down overall nationally the past couple seasons. I'm thinking that the college sports markets may just be getting saturated with all the single-minded pursuit of the dollar as opposed to tradition and fans. Just like the housing market a few years back--every bubble ends up popping.
Yeah, but they don't give season tickets to people who can't afford them.

Actually their attendance improved a couple thousand when Cal took over from Gillespie. I haven't looked, but that's probably about what we've dropped from last year.
I know our average was 16,100 last season. Anybody have current stats?
You make a good point, but KY still had outstanding attendance during the "bad" years. Surprisingly, their attendance has dipped slighlty despite the great teams.
See below for KY (still #1 except for 2014 when 'Cuse took #1 spot):
2007: 23,421
2008: 22,554
2009: 22,239
2010: 24,111
2011: 23,603
2012: 23,721
2013: 23,099
2014: 22,962
We ranked 10th in 2014.

For the size school we have and the record we've had over the past few years, our attendance is phenomenal. It is dipping some this year, and that's never a good sign, but it just goes to show what an incredible local fan base the Tigers have -- and have had for forty years.
You just ruined someone's agenda

Based on the data, KY fans show up in consistently strong numbers in comparison to Memphis. For the years listed above, KY had a 1,872 difference (or 8.4%) while we had a 2,406 variance (16.6%). The contrast would be greater - I think - when considering the 2015 attendance figures. There is no escaping the fact that KY fans support their team better than Memphis fans regardless of the coach or players.

I'm glad you are comparing us to the winningest program in college basketball. We should strive to be just like them. A good start would be to not settle for round of 32 exits.

True story: All the way out here on the West Coast, one old geezer KY fan came into my store, saw the Memphis Tiger's Clock on the wall, and pulled down his pants to show me his Duke Sucks custom embroidered boxer shorts.
So what do you think I did? lol

I do not know if you are simply thick or just stirring the pot.
The KY fans support their team despite the coach or players or even winning home record better than Tiger fans. Yes, KY has many NC and FF's. One reason for it is the strong support of fans through thick and thin. They do their part. We do not to the same degree.
