May not have a choice...

Then that is another lie this ******* needs to go down for lying. They even sponsor soccer, so it's not like he is avoiding a conference with soccer so that program doesn't suffer.

RE: A-Sun?
if we were to go to the a sun starting next season, i could see our team leaving en masse. I don't think any change would come that soon, though. I think we will have this team together at least one more year.

With Ray Watts as president, sure it is.

The A-Sun would do until Watts is gone and UAB has competent leadership.

Hell, might have to.

If UAB is in a conference not named CUSA next season, you can say bye bye to half of the basketball team.

Yeah because CUSA is such a basketball powerhouse.

RE: A-Sun?
I don't think anyone insinuated it was. It is NOT a powerhouse but it is leaps and bounds better than the A-Sun and these recruits we have were sold on us playing in our current C-USA. Not the A-Sun.

That said I think this will all get worked out as C-USA is giving us all the time we really need. They want us to stay and have a football team.

CUSA is significantly better than any alternatives we are looking at. There are historical powers in this conference, and we at least have a team capable of getting an at large this year. I can't even name a team in the asun, and I can normally think of a team or two in most conferences.

I would like to believe to, but as of today and the near future that will be in Watts hands. If he reaffirms his bonehead mistake in April and says NO FOOTBALL FOR YOU!, we will be in a tight spot conference-wise. Will CUSA keep us another year after we reaffirm no more football? I don't trust Watts.

Oh and the ASun isn't fine.

No one said it was fine. It is better than being independent or dropping down a division. If they are the only one who wants us, we have to take it, get our house in order and move up when possible.

RE: A-Sun?
What about soccer? Mike Getman sure has been quiet through all of this Watts' crapola. He gets a new soccer facility but gets thrown out of C-USA.

Everything Watts touches turns to crapola. He is incompetent to the Nth degree as a university president.

It would be a shittyasscrappy option, but better than dropping down to d2/3 or losing basketball altogether.

I'm with MB and others in that I'm hoping that whatever crappyness is going on with our athletics program is only temporary right now and is part of something that will ultimately lead to us being completely separate from UA and being able to manage our athletics how we see fit.

RE: A-Sun?
It may not be a great option, but we will need a safe, quiet, and out-of-sight Division I place to rebuild athletics with minimal interference if Watts does not do the right thing. No football drops us from C-USA. If all of our efforts fail, we need to plan for a future in the Sunbelt or A-Sun. That gives us a chance to rebuild a DI football team, get rid of Watts, and fix our BoT problem.

My guess is that dropping out of Division I athletics would probably be the end of athletics at UAB.

In the coming years, UAB is going to have an athletic program at some level, but not necessarily with our present staffs and present players. We just don't know right now what path UAB will be forced to take even in the 2015-2016 season. Everything is still up in the air and no one knows where the landing spot will be. We can only work to get the best results we can.

As far as men's soccer is concerned, they are in a position to be an affiliate program in C-USA even if we lose membership. With the new soccer facility and UAB's history, it will be one of the premier programs in the country... the next several seasons will be huge for men's soccer.

We will not rise up out of the ashes of the ASun and fly like a phoenix. This is it. You want UAB to have a full competitive sports program then be in Montgomery on March 10th.

Can't do that if the asun sponsors soccer. At least that is my understanding.
