I believe tailgating at Rice has a limited future. We've already lost almost 1,000 parking spots to the tennis center and continuing ed building. If attendance begins to build due to a winning tradition and better opponents, you'll be lucky to find one space for your vehicle let alone four so the tailgate can sprawl out comfortably.

That's why Rice needs to consider creating dedicated tailgating space, as some of you have been asking, that can be bought like a season package. At places where there's demand (SEC), that's exactly what they do and done for ages. The big donors pay for the close parking, and those willing to pay for the parking spots.
Start thinking and acting big, where the consequences are minimal/non-existent.

I'm still shocked we didn't lay out spaces with power when we ripped half the parking lot up last year for the tennis courts. They even planted nice trees over there for shade. If it had power and trash cans every weekend I would definitely reserve ia spot for the year! The mob could've made the same loop the inner loop busses make and walked past all the alumni tailgates AND down tailgate owley

The visitors have been setting up massive tailgates by the new tennis center. Prior to one game, they were lounging in the entrance and wouldn't move to allow cars into the lot.

I agree, and even with the reduced parking we still have as many or more close-in spaces than at many 'big-time' stadiums. If we continue to improve the product and create a demand for it, then we won't need to worry so much about the parking 'hassle'.
I love the food truck idea- both in the parking lot and on the concourse. Have a spot for a grouping of trucks with shaded seating areas. Pipe in music, or better yet have a stage with some live music (in the parking lot of course). In fact that is such a popular thing right now, why have we not already done it? Seems pretty easy.
ETA- There have to be a few off of this list that we could get. http://www.visithoustontexas.com/restaur...on-wheels/

Love it and agree, except for the MOB- I'll take speakers with music pumping or a stage with a band.

RE: Football Season Tickets
Most of the fans at A&M were coming in by bus from remote lots. Most of the tailgating was away from vehicles on the drill field on the other side of the student center.
In the old days when we had 70K crowds, much of the parking was on the surrounding streets in the neighborhood which is not really possible anymore. There was nothing between the RMC and the stadium except a grass field which was used for stadium parking.
Possible solutions include busing in from Medical Center garages and lots and the near-by light rail stations.

If I buy two season tickets in General Admission, will I be able to buy tickets to road games and sit with all the other Rice fans, or must I be a member of Owl Club also?

Gotta join the Owl Club, but it really is money well spent, and the minimum annual contribution is not that much.
