This is a win, win, win! I don't want to miss this.

And thanks, again, Chris for catching that ball.

Di you get a chance to attend the game?

Sure did, and for some reason that morning I just had a gut feelilng we were going to win, along with the team who believed they could do it. It was my son's first-ever college football game. He was 9. After it was all over, I told him, "Now, that was an incredible game, but don't think all football games are going to be like this one!" lol

The line was like 35. Hard to believe anyone would think we had realistic shot. Remember the GREAT D and Peyton had happy feet back in those days.

That's a fast start for a 9 year old. I helped tear the posts down. Vol players were walking around in shock like someone kicked them in jublees. That fricked lapedes had egg on his face, he had kissed ever vols arse in town esp dickeys. The coolest part was that I ran into about 10 old friends and fellow alums some I hadn't seen in years from the 80's helping tear em down
It was a good day. Looking at piece of he post as I type this

That may never happen again but at least it happened that once. What an incredible day. Those memories will warm me till the day I die.

I wish I could find Paul Hartledge's call of that game on cd. I thought a private school sold them many years ago as fundraisers. If anyone knows how to get one, please PM me. Thanks!

We nearly beat them at Knoxville the next year, their NC year. Took a last minute drive and a thread a needle TD pass to get the win. Seems like 3 or 4 Tigers had a shot at that bullet and all missed it. It was close later when DeAngelo didn't play up there.

Years later, a last second FG got them a win in the rain. I was there for that one.

in '96, ole George was joking on the pregame special - one reason UT could lose was if the bus driver got them lost on the way to the stadium. After the game he apologized for making light of the game (UT was a 26 or 27 point favorite). He was celebrating with the President and the AD on the field. A complete flip. Surprised callers didn't give him a hard time about that.

That game was in 08 and it we lost for two reasons.

1-RIP went for a field goal on 4th and goal to go up by 6 instead of going for the win.

2-the utk QB made a mad scramble and heaved a ball 60 yards to a receiver that made a great play over Tiger defenders.

We had that game and had the next game in Memphis until RIP squibbed the last kick off and let utk kick a game winning FG. 03-banghead

That is what I mean about my strange feeling. I had hated UT my entire life, with a passion, and would have loved beating them. I was PRAYING we would beat them that game. But I am also pretty savvy about what I see on a football field since I have been going with my dad and brothers since I was 10. Everything pointed to it being an uphill battle that day with our record compared to theirs and all the rabit UT fans that would be here. I had heard smack talk all week. Our offense had not done a lot that whole season, and UT had shown the ability to run all over everyone's SEC defense.

Many, many big games I had hoped we would beat someone, but didn't count on it. But that morning....that morning, as my son and I left our home to walk to the game, I just had a really, really good feeling that we were going to do it, a strange calm feeling. I KNEW how bad our players wanted it. And I've since read about how the team had this confidence before the game that they were going to win.

I remember telling my son, "On any given day, any team can beat any other team. We can win today."

A long story, but I have never felt more confident of anything in my life, as I set out that day. I screamed, literally screamed and danced all the way back to my home that night, with many other Tiger fans, "Go to hell, UT." I am sure the neighbors enjoyed it.

I will take that awesome sight of all the stunned UT fans in the stands to my grave. I still replay the great moments of that game when I need inspiration. And I love every single one of the players on that team. It was my favorite game of all time.

That is awesome. Circuit Judge Butch Childers, a Tiger alum, has a whole wall of newspaper articles and mementos of that game. I love going in his chambers with attorneys just to see his wall.

I went to that game with some of my UT friends. I was so pissed that Williams didn't play. We had them that game.
