Barber, from Akron, cleared 19' plus in the pole vault last week and took three shots at what would have been an NCAA record of 19'4.25". This guy may well be the most talented athlete in MAC history.

BTW, for the MAC men's indoors will it be EMU's running vs. Akron's field (esp. jumps)?

Kent might be in the mix, too, but yeah, that's what I'm expecting.

BTW, EMU also has an excellent jumper, Donald Scott, to go with excellent runners.

Should be fun for the indoor men's T&F championships.

Akron also has/had a talented German female pole vaulter who took the Women's Outdoor title in 14. The MAC has a great deal of accomplishments to have pride in.

Track and Field championship at CMU (?) will be exciting.

We have athletes who can compete with the best in the nation.

Not what we once were but there are few very good athletes. Dowswell, Schotterman, Wottle, Sink, Crawford, Tinker, Turner and Smith they aren't for the most part, but there is talent there. There were three Olympic gold medalists in the group I listed and the entire group qualified for the trials along with at least two others. All competed at the same time- early 70s. Good to see some national attention again.

RE: Shawn Barber
Barber continues to help move the Zips up the national rankings. Women and Men seem to be dominating the indoor season.

Week of 2/23 Rankings:

Akron Men #16 nationally. Only MAC team in the top 25. For comparison the B10 has three mens teams in the top 25.

Akron Women #14 nationally. Again, the only MAC team in the top 25. B10 has 1 team in the women's top 25

Indoor championship in Mount Pleasant should be a great show.

I hate that U
T no longer has men's track but I'll be rooting hard for those schools that do to make a splash in the NCAAs this year.

And yet here you are, following along with all the other people who care. Quite comical...and sad all at the same time.

After four finals EMU leads in both genders. Find results under the "Chmapionship Central" tab on the MAC track site. No, I did not have a typo there.

I wish I were in Mt. Pleasant. Who ever thought I'd say that. 03-lmfao

(just kidding. Mt. Pleasant is pleasant. Cold, but pleasant. Or pleasant when it's not cold).

Haven't been to Mt. p since I last ran there in the 70s.
I wish all MAC schools had indoor tracks and the MACC got spread around. I ran in some great meets at the old Field House in Ypsilanti. Still remember running against Marshall Dill from MSU the year he set a WR in the 300.

I drove through Mt. P in 2012. Mt. Pleasant, and I haven't looked at the stats, has grown a lot over the decades.

It isn't the same town/U since the 70s. (I attended the dedication of the FB stadium with a CMU co-ed in 1972).

So what you're saying is you are expert in recognizing some of the great MAC runners of the 70's by their backsides.
