RE: Rice Football Signing Day Event @St Arnolds
Wow, would suck if Nordstrom and Covington both leave a year of eligibility on the table! I like the guys returning on the d-line and the new recruits look good. But the d-line has been generally snake-bit between injuries, guys leaving the program, and guys leaving Rice with unused eligibility.

What's this you say?

I heard in January he was still deciding about whether to come back.
As I understand it, he got a VERY nice job offer and with the uncertainty in his field, 'had' to take it. It's a good thing for him (and the program in general) even if it is 'bad' for the team this year.

Fencing, Badminton, Diving, maybe gymnastics, racket sports, shooting, archery, beach volleyball... all things that take little space and/or we have the space already... I suspect those are the most likely candidates. Rugby, LAX, Field Hockey probably next because we already have spots used for those things... somewhat.

There's a lot of local fencing talent in the Houston area.

The U.S. Junior Men’s Epee Team earned its first top-eight finish of the season on Sunday where Anton Piskovatskov (Houston, Texas), Michael Popovici (Katy, Texas), Ariel Simmons (Bellaire, Texas) and Samuel Freiman (Woodlands, Texas) finished seventh in a field of 22 teams.

I would love to expand Rice Athletics as much as anyone, but for Pete's sake: let's get our current program right first! We are very much heading in the right direction, but we're not there yet.
