Huskies score 69pts in back to back games and win one loss one. The difference, Miami didn't go 27-31 from the free-throw line!

Now if only Baker could be consistent.

When Baker is 6 for 7, NIU will win most games. When was the last time you saw a visiting team shoot more free throws? NIU 23 to 16

Great win. Something to note, we always are competitive. Whether we are playing the top of the Mac or the bottom, it depends who shows up. Good news is we don't seem to ever get blown out. We compete, and unless we are playing Notre Dame, games seem close. Good win tonight

There is no question in my mind Baker is the most important player to this team's success. This stat to me is just mind blowing, just mind blowing.

In 11 Huskie losses, Baker FG-FGA: 12-79 15.2%
In 9 Huskie wins, Baker FG-FGA: 29-57 50.9%

Huskies formula for success. Baker-30 min, Orriss-10 min, Johnson-Aaron Armstead split mins, Aaric Armstead-30 min, Chuks-10 min, Bowie-30 min, Gray-Pete split 10min and Threloff-Maric split mins. Monty, please stop playing Orriss 20 some mins.

For the life of me, I don't know why Montgomery plays Orris for so many minutes like he's the greatest thing since sliced bread. It hurts to watch Orris play.

I would like them not to play Orris at all. I think they should try, Johnson, Armstead, Armstead, Bowie and Tree or Maric for a few mins together, especially when teams play zone. Next year, Orris and Kevin Gray can not be on scholarship!

Pretty sure cagy said he is playing with a broken bone or something that will require surgery in his shooting hand. Kudos to him for gutting it out as the team can't really afford another guard to be out.

Yes they can. Orris is awful. Please bench him. They don't need him hate to sound mean but what does he do.

RE: Huskies @ Redhawks predictions
I am surprised that 2222 actually thinks NIU can play with only one point guard--or in the one scenario he listed, NO point guard. I thought his basketball acumen was more sophisticated and his knowledge of the game was more thorough. No way can a college team that plays with the defensive ferocity and intensity that Monty demands, can one guy play more than 25-30 minutes and be effective over the course of the full season. As for Orris, he is needed, in spite of his offensive woes to handle the ball when Baker is resting or in foul trouble or playing badly. As MD points out, Baker is like the little girl from the nursery rhyme: "when (s)he was good,
(s)he was very, very good, But when (s)he was bad, (s)he was horrid!" When horrid, he needs a blow and Orris does an adequate job of running the offense--much more so that NIU could do with NO point guard. Also, Michael plays pretty damn good defense much of the time and his length is a plus, especially on closeouts--and he doesn't get beat off the dribble nearly as often as Baker.
I do believe that some of MO's offensive difficulties are due to the right hand injury and the rest are the result of his adjusting to college basketball...after all, he last played (before this year) any sizeable minutes in high school--after sitting most of two years ago and ALL of last year. He has a pretty good basketball IQ but seems to try to do more than he is capable of, perhaps as a result of losing minutes to Baker. One can never knock his effort and I believe he will play much better in the future as is he only a soph, albeit a redshirt one.

RE: Huskies @ Redhawks predictions
Cagey, I agree, you need two point guards. Orris should not be playing 26 mins a game when he is avg 3.7 pts, 280%fg, 189% from 3pt and leading the team in turnovers! Baker's numbers are not much better so you can't afford two crappy shooters. Also, NIU's point guard is not driving and dishing, they are dribbling and passing. NIU can go up and down the court a couple times without Baker or Orris. Desperate times call for desperate measures! Last night, this season, the future and Monty's tenure here were all on the ropes! You cannot keep doing the same thing then being surprised with the same outcome.
