Signing Day - February 4, 2015
Dear Friends,
Who is going to the party at the Convocation Center? Party starts at 6p.m., and it's free. I think it is a great idea to get people excited about the upcoming season. I'll be there with a couple of buddies.

Yes Ray, they'll have the football coaching staff there and talk about all the signings and player highlights they also have a season ticket promotion.

I attended last year. Enjoyable event. Free drinks and hors d'oeuvres. Creighton spoke and played highlight reels from each commit. Fans got a chance to mingle with each of the coaches as well.

RE: Signing Day - February 4, 2015
Dear Friends,
I know the weather was not the best, but being at the signing party was one of the best events I have been to, so I am sure they will do it again next year.
Coach Creighton said they spent 365 days this past year recruiting. That means at least one coach was actively involved in the process everyday. They have already made 15 offers for the class of 2016.
Some of the things that happened last year, that I certainly did not know about. Brogan Roback did have an orbital bone fracture from the Michigan State game, and so it was decided to try for a medical red-shirt with him. In the Central game Reggie Bell suffered a mild concussion, and the coaches decided to put Roback in and lose the red-shirt, when Rob Bolden said to put him in instead, even though he had a terribly dislocated finger. He played the rest of the game with the finger sticking out, perpendicular at times to the rest of his fingers. So Roback was able to keep the red-shirt. The coaches were indebted to the sacrifice that Bolden made, to keep the red-shirt for Roback.
Last year, there were players who were not very enthusiastic about the workouts and the preparation for coming games. This year so far everyone is on board. I talked to Aaron Pipkins, and Cole Gardner, and they said the enthusiasm this year is unbelievable. While talking with Coach Kalen DeBorer he got a tweet from Brogan Roback about when he could go over some films with him. He showed us the tweet on his phone. Coach DeBorer also said they were interested in some of the Alabama Birmingham players, but they decided to go closer to home.
The overall speed of the team should be better, especially with defensive backs and wide receivers. Some of the new recruits could start this fall, but they would like to red-shirt as many as possible. We are still not up to the 85 man limit in scholarships, only about 70-75. There will be more signings if Eastern can get the players they are looking for.
I think I've rambled on a bit here, so if anyone has a question, feel free to ask. I may be able to answer some.

Thanks for reporting all that, Ken. That's a fascinating story about Bolden going in for Roback, despite his injury. Which coach did you hear that from?

Great insight Ken!

Roback is listed as a Junior, so is it safe to assume he was not granted a medical redshirt or is that process still developing?

Dear FrankAnderson,
The Bolden story came from Coach DeBorer.

Dear Eagle King,
From Coach DeBorer, Roback was granted the medical red-shirt.

Great stuff ken. I can imagine it's tough to stay enthusiastic about workouts when you're 2-10, but that has to be a part of the culture change.

Sounds like Roback is sticking around. That's very important, especially in light of Smith quitting. I still think Reggie is the future, but with his style of play and slight frame, it's good to have a capable backup.

This is awesome, Ken. Thanks for the knowledge! Man; I SO wish I still lived in Michigan. Sounds like such a cool event.

And, my heart is warm over hearing the dedication of my boy Rob Bolden. 03-cloud9

Good stuff, Ken.

One of the things about being at events or even hanging around the Convo is what one can learn, from folks who know...

And it makes following the team more fun.

Thanks also, Ken. I'm one of those older guys who lives in Livonia, but can't get to all the events I'd like to. So I depend on people like you to provide me with the inside scoop. I can't tell you how much I appreciate your input. Keep up the good work.

Do you know of any specific UAB players we might be looking at?
