Exchanging Liberty for Security
It's been discussed before, but here it is again. Interesting opinion piece that I agree with.

Which group made this possible...Liberals? Conservatives? How about BOTH?

I got to the part where the writer said terrorism is a "passing phenomenon", like it's just a fad and it will be gone when the spring fashions come out.

The writer doesn't understand this fight with radical Islam will take decades or (maybe) centuries.

Passing fad is rather dumb, but the rest of the article stands in that we are becoming a surveillance state for the sake of terrorism. They win if we lose our liberties.

It's a concern. We don't have the privacy and liberty we had back in the 60's and 70's. Not even close. Thousands of new laws are passed every year at all levels of government.

But it could be worse. In England, don't they have multiple cameras at every intersection in the country? There is no sidewalk where you can go without being watched from miles away. How Orwellian.

Let me preface my answer by admitting, I'm honestly not sure how widespread that whole security-camera thing was (or is) in the U.K. But based on a few random talks with people who had been there, my impression is that the program was (I) only introduced in London and maybe 2-3 other large cities, and (II) was found to serve no useful law-enforcement purpose, and (III) has been largely (but, maybe not 100%) discontinued.
