The idiots who didn't vaccinate their kids and who now have it are in a slightly different boat.

Has anybody confirmed that every single case thus far has been with a person who wasn't vaccinated?

It is all really beside the point. The point is that if you are going to be a selfish ass and put others at risk, you pay.

Six of the cases are people who were vaccinated. Two of the six were not completely vaccinated as it requires more than one shot to achieve full immunity.

Thanks!

That goes right to my point.

I bet there are a lot of folks out there right now who think they are pretty safe but are not. From what I just looked up the vaccine is never entirely effective, even after two rounds. Folks who receive just the first round show effective rates ranging from 80-90%.

Still, the point is that these fools put otherwise responsible people at risk. It gets no more selfish and those people should pay for the harm that comes from their stupidity.

Infants who are too young to be vaccinated are also at risk. Simply stunning that people are shunning science due to "feelings".

The selfishness of people who chose to not vaccinate is mind-boggling. They were ill-informed and decided to rely on herd immunity for protection. But you only get herd immunity if the vast majority of people are protected. As soon as that percentage drops below a certain level in an area (i.e. Orange County) and the virus is introduced the threat of a serious outbreak is realized.

And due to the mobility of the populace in today's society we now have measles cases in about half of the states. It's just a matter of time until it is in every state. One infected person visiting Disneyland is now over 100 reported cases in just one months time. Do the math.

Those who opted to not vaccinate were basically saying "you get your kids vaccinated so that my kid doesn't have to be vaccinated." I really have no sympathy for someone who chose not to vaccinate and they or their child contracts measles.

Before you pin it on liberals, take a look at how the right wing nuts on Infowars sees it.

My son caught a preventable (by vaccine) form of menigitis when he was 6-weeks old. He was 2-weeks shy of getting his first rounds of vaccines. It was a rough few weeks there, but luckily, 2-months and $120k hospital bill later, he survived and is a healthy, normal 2 year old. Not all people are as lucky as we were.

Just because you have a baby doesnt mean you have to stop your life for months on end. We eventually had to take him to the grocery store one time at 5 weeks. That one time is all it took, a few days later he started showing symptoms.

I'll never understand the anti-vax crowd. They will never know the destruction they cause, for some "science" they think is true.

The anti-vaccine crowd is not party specific although it does lean to the left. There are people who are ignorant of science and believe unsubstantiated rumors posted on the internet and elsewhere that sit on both sides of the aisle.

I am glad your son recovered and is fine. It is a shame that he (and his parents) had to go through something totally preventable like meningitis.

The anti-vax advocates don't have science to back up their claims. Only pseudo-science.

I can agree with that. Folks on both sides that refuse to vaccinate primarily due to refuted data.

RE: Got measles?
Yes, "Measles Parties" actually exist. Some folks should never be parents. Hard to believe some people are actually that stupid.

Stay Away From 'Measles Parties' Docs Warn Parents

snippet:
Quote:California health officials are warning parents not to hold "measles parties" that intentionally expose their children to measles and other childhood diseases.

The California Department of Public Health "strongly recommends against the intentional exposure of children to measles as it unnecessarily places the exposed children at potentially grave risk and could contribute to further spread of the outbreak," the agency said in a statement today

RE: Got measles?
One of the main concerns regarding the lack of immunization is that certain segments of the population really *can't* take the immunizations, due to past reactions or legitimate health issues like leukemia, and they rely on our overall immunizations to prevent the disease from ever making a beachhead and spreading. Herd immunity is a thing, and small drops in overall immunization rates have disproportionate responses.

Also, remember, vaccines aren't perfect and don't last forever. So even someone who is responsible for themselves can be hurt from this.

I guess when study after study dispels the rumors, folks resort to this type of thing.

Anti-vaccination group's idea of comparing vaccinations to rape.

I still think this is a perfect problem for our tort laws to handle.
