Blog Discusses How (& Why) ESPN Promotes The SEC
I will preface this by saying damn right this Big XII blog is Tiger-related. It states plainly what many of us already knew about ESPN's special treatment of the SEC - the conference we are surrounded by and compete against for recruits and support. There is no doubt that the SEC has very good football, but didn't Ohio State, TCU, Notre Dame and Georgia Tech prove that ESPN's partner was a bit over-hyped?

So a Big Twelve blogger thinks there is a bias?

More better teams...simple as that.

Yes, and backs it up with hard facts.

Quote:More better teams...simple as that.

Who were they better than? All the "G5" teams that the SEC typically loads up on OOC, claiming that it's justified because their conference is so tough? They certainly weren't better than Notre Dame, Ohio State, TCU or Georgia Tech.

Again, I realize that SEC football is very good (it should be because their fans support their schools and recruits in the South are brainwashed with SEC propaganda), but there is little doubt that ESPN gives that conference very favorable PR (and for obvious reasons).

Definite bias that creates the perception of reality. This was a down year for the $EC as there were NO dominant teams.

Top to bottom, possibly... but there is nothing other than opinion to back that up. The Pac 12 was very good this year. But since it was used 7 of the last 9 years.... gotta hand it to the Big10, they have the National Championship to prove it!!!

ESPN has become more or less a recruiting service for the SEC so naturally they will have more good teams. Hard to combat the coverage the SEC has due to ESPN and the influence it has with top recruits.

That is a lame excuse and is so overplayed!!!! State was trying to show they deserved their HYPE and overcome a beating in the Egg Bowl.... "One of the best front sevens in the nation couldn't handle Ga Tech after a month of preparation.... the excuse Georgia gives, not enough time to prepare.

Same BS Bama used against Oklahoma... and Utah!!!

Guess ole miss, L$U, Auburn, Bama and the rest weren't motivated?!!

they were so used to playing great teams that they just could not get up for a decent team like GT. Same for Ole Miss, if it would meant something they would have killed TCU 03-shhhh

RE: Blog Discusses How (& Why) ESPN Promotes The SEC
Yawn.

You guys are aware had there been playoffs, some years the national champion would have Been different...including years SEC schools did not win. Any team that plays another good team can lose. It is more than possible, for example, that LSU would not have won the whole thing in 2007. But...some inconvenient facts, which will be swept aside I am sure because only bias allowed wins...in the BCS era alone...

1998 TN won...may not have if had to play an additional elite team
1999 Alabama likely would have been in the tourney...which means may have won.
2001 Florida likely in the tourney which means might have won.
2002 Georgia likely in the tourney which means might have won.
2003 LSU won may not have if had to play an additional elite team
2004 Auburn definitely in the tourney which means might have won.
2006 through 2012, those seven champions may not have won if required to play another elite team
2013 Alabama likely in the tourney which means might have won.

All elite teams ... Can lose to other elite teams. From start to finish since 1998 the have been 9 national champions from the SEC out of 17 years. With a playoff maybe there would have been 0...there also may have been 14. It cannot always be bias...even though is agree...mispiiiiin was vastly overrated last year.

But your response is an opinion, fostered by the exact logic addressed in this thread....

I see the light Ned, lucky for YOU that ole miss was bored of being so highly ranked.

Even Bama suffered playing in "just another Sugar Bowl" Because it wasn't REALLY the National Championship game after all. (But I do love Bama has lost three straight Sugar Bowls)

Btw. GA this is why the AAC signed with ESPN for less money.

ESPN is the opinion leader in American sports.

Georgia Tech was coming off a heartbreaking last second loss to FSU in the ACC title game, and had during the game day at least a hail mary shot at sneaking into the playoffs. It would have taken some bizarre outcomes, but it wasn't impossible. If the Orange Bowl is the biggest of big for GT, why did they get man handled by Iowa there in 2009? An Iowa team that, while they had a legit loaded defense was horrific on offense.

Mississippi State somehow didn't care about the Orange Bowl? After stealing a much more prominent bowl spot from Michigan State? The first major bowl for Miss-Stake in a LIFETIME and they were sleep walking?

Uh ....... no.
