Can the op tell me how Chris Crawford and Kareem cooper were the best prospects on their respective teams? Just because the measurables are right. Yeesh

I don't see where they can get a true center at this point.
Would have to be a grad transfer or really under the radar HS/JUCO.
You're right...

Austin will make money playing ball somewhere. Markel is still a long way from certain, plus he's got bad knees.

He averaged 20ppg and around 9 rebounds per game and was college player of the year at North Carolina. In the NBA though his skills didn't translate quite as well. Only averaged 7ppg and 5rpg in around 18mpg. Of course, he did get drafted in the first round and even though he's not a starter he's a solid role player. Austin needs to get better at rebounding and work on his jumper a bit and he has a chance to get drafted maybe first round. It's just that sometimes the skills that make you a great college player don't translate into the NBA.

That would be crazy & a detriment to his game.

I'd like to see him at 230.
Agreed, I sure hope he doesn't take the Shaq route and come back at 190 next year.

See, I don't think so...
I think you can be a 2 in the NBA even at 6'4". Especially if you're atheltic and can shoot the ball with range & consistency.
Markel has a long way to go, needs to develop...but he has 2-3 years to do it. If he does, I think he's a real NBA player, no doubt!
He's a quicker more athletic version of Chris. Maybe if he develops his shot a little more.
No, no, no, try a more controlled less athletic version of Geron. A smaller more skilled version of Antonio Anderson.

RE: Our best NBA prospect is ...
I think it is Nichols.
He has a real chance to be an All American next season. We will be much better, much higher profile and will add an attractive McDs freshman to go along with a lot of cumulative extra experience at guard.
Austin will be another year older, still bigger, even more mature and the unquestioned leader of the team. Add any aggression to his already good game and can legitimately see a 18 and 11 style player with a lot of blocks on a team likely ranked all season. Translates to first rounder.
Just from visuals, Austin, then really Dedric Lawson at this point. Of course Dedric will need to show it against college defenses...and it would be great if the Markels and Shaqs add enough addition to throw more into the mix.

RE: Our best NBA prospect is ...
I don't see anyone on this roster getting drafted. Nichols could be a John Leuer type if he develops a perimeter game. 6'8" 225lb post players aren't in high demand in the league, so he will have to work his way in. At his size, he would need to learn to be a stretch 4, which we have seen some signs of this year. I watch lots of NBA games, and it has been tough to learn who makes it doesn't make it in the NBA. There are plenty of college stars who failed in the NBA, and plenty of mediocre college players who did quite well. A common thread seems to be that you have to be elite at something to get there. Given that, I am still not sure how Tarik made it into the league, because he was an undersized PF who didn't rebound well and couldn't shoot outside of 5 feet. So, what do I know?
I don't see anyone else with an elite skill set that would warrant a look at this point. Austin is the best we have. However, he will have a chance to make a bunch of money playing basketball.

I don't think many here are projecting him a real NBA post man.
More of a stretch guy with a deep skill set and a soft touch with both hands.
Plenty of room for those guys in the leauge if the really want it imo.

LOL WTF is this thread?!?! Our best prospects bags are packed for calling our Coach a fraud. And after that we have a euro player or 5. No NBA in the near future for any kids left on the roster, without a graduate transfer. Just being real. Real negative, but real none the less

As of right now, I just don't see AN being a high draft pick, MAYBE a late 1st rounder, but I don't see it. Do you think he could take John Leur's spot, or even Jarnell Stokes? Not to mention the international players that take a majority of the picks in the 1st round. I like AN but until he develops a nasty streak in his game, I don't see it. Think of the guys in the league that he would have to take a job from. I'm pulling for him like I do all Tiger players, but he's not a killer yet, and that will be what holds him back IMHO. And coach has nothing to do with that, that has to come from within.

RE: Our best NBA prospect is ...
And another thing, not having NBA players on your college rooster doesn't mean squat. Quick, how many Cincinnati, Florida, SMU, or for that matter, AAC, SEC or any other team not named KY, had players drafted in the 1st round. It ain't easy getting into the league. Which big men across this nation or internationally will you take AN over? And remember, even when it comes to the 2nd round, teams start to draft more and more international players that they can stash for a few years, again, it's not as easy as WE think it is.

No one else does "right now" either.
But we all see that he has a chance if he continues to develop the next few years.

I'm not a big NBA watcher but, it seem to me the trend in the NBA is toward lighter and faster......Curry, Rose, Evans, etc. Not talking about skill, just size.

Don't get me wrong, I think Austin has a real chance to be an NBA player. But I don't see him as a high draft pick. Keep in mind, last year only 3 players were drafted that had comparable measurables to Nichols - Josh Huestis (who was immediately sent to the NBDL), Kyle Anderson (different PF than AN), and Cory Jefferson (last pick in the draft).
Fact of the matter is - 6'8" 225 lb PF/C aren't in high demand for NBA teams. That being said...I still think Austin is a very fluid, skilled big. He has a long reach, high basketball IQ, great hands and his jumpshot is improving - a must, if he wants to be a NBA bit player.
If you made me put $ on it ...I'd say he'll end up getting drafted (not after this year) but looking ahead, I don't think he's our best NBA prospect.
IMHO, I think our best NBA prospect is Markel Crawford. Now, he has a ways to go. And his measurables will work against him too - 6'4" SG isn't ideal, but much more common in the NBA than a 6'8" center w/ a slight-build.
Crawford has great shooting form & his % is great too. He can handle the ball. He is super athletic. He has long arms and he's only a freshman. IF (and that's a big if) he continues to develop - ball handleing, defense, mental focus, mid-range, etc. I think he could be an all-AAC caliber guard and a Top 40 NBA pick. I'll go one step further...if he does all that, in 3 years I think he could be a lottery pick.
Long ways to go, but that's my unpopular opinion of the day. Still love AN, btw.
While I think Nichols is a sure fire NBA pro, I do agree that Markel is a prospect with upside. Looks every bit the part and seems to have the heart. We'll see.

Like John Leuer?
The thing with AN is that he doesn't really beat his man with speed or quick moves to the basket. He gets position and then is very skilled scoring wise to finish the play.
He would have a hard time establishing position in the post in the nba at his size right now. Can't remember what game it was earlier in the year (Baylor maybe) but their bigs just kept pushing him further under the basket causing him to take low percentage shots.
If he can develop a consistent outside shot I like his chances better.
All that said he's the most skilled big man we have had in a long time. Really like his game at the college level
