The "roof can't support a scoreboard" is an old wives' tale from someone who didn't want to bother with raising the money for a new scoreboard. Ole Miss' coliseum was built from virtually the same plans at the same time and they've had a center-hung scoreboard and rigging for years.

It is going to be first class. Now to finish securing the funding, which I have heard is going very well.

I was wondering about funding the project. McGillis talked about this being a project not just for USM, but for the whole region. Based on past history though, I really don't expect the City of Hattiesburg to be on board.

It will be a city, multi-county, and state funding model. I would say over 50% will come from them. The rest from private funds and naming rights. Also believe the University itself is prepared to contribute a small amount, if they have to to get us over the hump.

Agreed... no all blacks. Just a bad idea in that regard.. but how do you shade the chair colors so it doesn't stand out as being too gaudy.

To me, the second picture was the change that was ABSOLUTELY needed. (I think Bill got the idea from his trip to the Missouri campus stadium during last year's NIT trip.. cause I'll be damned if that doesn't look just like it, about the only thing missing is a Souvenir shop on the side and just behind the ticket booth.)

I doubt this fantasy ever leaves the drawing board. Anyone counting on local political "leaders" to work together with the school to help fund this project is crazy.

During the presentation they had versions with all black and all gold seating and the question about alternating colors was raised.

One of the ideas they looked at was a souvenir store near the main entrance that would be open regular hours, not just on game days.
They also looked at moving the ticket office operations from the Ferlise Center to Reed Green.
Each of these adds additional costs to the project.

Well, at least they've put me and my fellow war criminals in our place. The only competition I care about any more is the three-way race between cirrhosis, stroke, and colon cancer. Come on colon cancer... you can do it!

In my case, this opinion was based on a hard look at the roof itself. I just don't think it can support much. Now, we have a history with laughably small video scoreboards, and we need to be careful that history doesn't repeat itself. Even in Bill's renderings, it looks pretty frickin' small. Might be better to spend the money elsewhere, e.g. on a ribbon display around the arena's circumference.

Dupree and the city circus will likely not be approached. However forrest and lamar counties will. Forrest co has a history of working well. Lamar will be the test.
IMO any areas that dont want to cooperate should be told no when they want to use the facility in the future.

Scoreboards have come a long way in the last several years. 25 years ago it may have been to heavy. I saw a video display board used at a high school game recently that rolled up.

not sure....just assumed after a glance....regardless, brick is always a facade....very little value in structural integrity.....kinda like that 'fat tub o' goo' (gotta give dahbeed props for that one 03-wink)

...you know how those 'myths' in the 'burg get started.....some strange folks that just like to 'chatter' in this town....

to your last statement.....I'm only in the camp of 'build it'.....I'm the type that doesn't need details about how or why.....

from the couple of contacts I talked to today, I am much happier with this type of release relative to my initial sentiment....

do not take this as anything other than what I stated.....much work still to be done.....

one thing about the 'burg....if the seed gets planted, it has potential (money) to sprout...it may not rival tuscaloosa money, but it's here.....

this is the point where sales and marketing become huge....Big Mac fills the shoes of the previous Big Mac (McLellan) if he pulls this off.....

it's funny, when I read the HA article this a.m., I wanted to call-in and accuse the writer of plagiarism 03-wink

sometimes you gotta go to hell before you can realize what a slice of heaven is all about.....

we're due for some pretty good things moving forward.....this 'kick in the arse' is exactly what we needed to get people motivated.....fk complacent thinking.....

This. LED technology is so much better than what used to be out there. My 42" plasma television at home weighs WAY more than the 70" LED we just installed in our office.
