Didn't he request an increase for the military? That should make the Repubs happy.

He knows he won't get it. It is a way to draw a distinction between D's and R's when the next election comes about - especially for president.

It's not going to happen, but that would smack the economy on the behind and it would explode. Of course the Republicans don't want that with 2016 on the horizon, so on with the status quo of modest job growth.

You borrow it at a nearly zero percent interest rate and pay it back in spades with increased tax revenues when the economy goes gang busters.

RE: Obama wants end of sequester and 7% spending increase
We've been on this ride before.....
I thought everything was going to be peachy after the first stimulus....then stimulus 2....then years (and years, and years, and more years) of QE. We've heard it time and time and time again during this presidency. And guess what? It never happens.
Where are all those "shovel ready" jobs? Where was the "recovery summer"? When was the economy supposed to go "gang busters" and "explode"?
Hasn't worked. Fool me once.....twice....three and four times.....
Nope. Those policies just got voted OUT.

That's ALL he's going to do these last few years of his presidency.

Well, at least that would be a Constitutional use of the money.
Can't find the part of the Constitution that charges the federal government to study the sex life of fruit flies or provide funding for the boondoggle that is alternative energy.

What about the study of red herrings?
And as far as the alt energy...I'm sure you also have problems with all the subsidies to big oil and all the other monies the govt loans out for myriad industries, right?

I'm sure the founding fathers had in mind a huge military-industrial complex taking up a large fraction of the budget too.

Actually I do, but go ahead and assume I don't since I am a conservative.
But to give credit where it's due....at least the money being spent there can be shown as being somewhat worthwhile. Thus far with the lack of results from the left's beloved alternative energy plan we would have been better off just burning the actual cash in one of the old coal fired plants.
If we were to restrict the federal government to what it is Constitutionally required to do we wouldn't have to worry about budget deficits.

Hard to say on that.
But I can most assuredly say that they didn't plan on any portion of the budget being spent for studying gay dating phone apps, the effects of Swedish massages on rabbits, or teaching mountain lions to walk on treadmills.

That reminds me of a funny story NIU...did you know the founding fathers actually decided NOT to have a standing army?
I believe they talked about it in that...what's that thing called again??? The Con...Cons...
"The Congress shall have Power To ...raise and support Armies, but no Appropriation of Money to that Use shall be for a longer Term than two Years...." ~ ARTICLE I, SECTION 8, CLAUSE 12

Yes, we could have all those coal-fired plants. We could also have the kind of pollution they have in India or China where those are more prevalent. And people have to walk around trying not to breathe.
