Gunner's Successor?
The Best Football Prospect No One Has Heard Of
Quote:Easton Bruere should be having the time of his life right now.
He just finished his senior season as quarterback at Rio Rancho (New Mexico) High School by leading it to a 13-0 record and a 6A state title.
According to MaxPreps, Easton threw for 4,567 yards and 49 touchdowns with only six interceptions this season. In the process, he became the state's all-time leader in passing yards.
Easton should be getting ready to enjoy his final semester of high school before heading off to college to resume his playing career.
But there's one small problem.
He has zero scholarship offers less than a week before national signing day.

Largest division in New Mexico, kid out-dueled Michigan's QB of the future in the State Playoffs. He'll end up getting an end of year flier or a preferred walk-on offer with a scholly a year later.

One... I think it highly premature to be worried about "Gunner's successor."
Two... We have a highly regarded QB recruit in the class already, his name's Ross Trail.
Three... There are so many variables--will a kid sign or not? will potential be realized? will the kid ever see the campus or the field--it is impossible to see the future.
Just relax and enjoy the ride.

Hayden Moore seems to be well regarded also.

RE: Gunner's Successor?
Was curious so I looked it up - the NFL hasn't had a player born in New Mexico for the last 5 years.

Agreed.
And it's not like you can have too many QB's. I just think it's way too early to start planning who "Gunner's successor" will be.

It's never too early. Look who had to play in the Military Bowl.....the 4th string walk-on. If Gunner has a monster year, he may decide to go to the NFL. You can never have too many good QBs on the roster.

makes me wonder why he hasn't been recruited. If his school is one of the larger ones. Does he possibly look like Alfred E. Neumann and that fact scares the recruiters?

This one just doesn't pass the smell test. I find it hard to believe that he is not being recruited just because he lives in New Mexico?! They always say that if you are good enough, they will find you. Maybe in New Mexico their 6A division teams all look like this:

I'm surprised that the University of New Mexico hasn't jumped on him. Rio Rancho is on Albuquerque's northern fringes, UNM usually fields lousy football teams, and the school would benefit from any talent it could possibly attract.
Maybe a case of familiarity breeds contempt?

There was something in the article about UNM pulling 6(?!) QB's in their '14 class, so they didn't go after one this year.
