RE: BYU
So stands to reason if we can make it financially worthwhile for BYU to join the American then we will have a precedent and acceptance level for the American Conference to be the P6 Conference. Could this be the real goal? Let's go Aresco and ESPN!

I know many on this board are anti-Bronco, but BYU and Boise St. would make a great tandem addition to the American. San Diego St. and Colorado St. could round out a western division.

More likely, however, would be a continued affiliation where BYU continues to play 2 or 3 American teams during the regular season each year and a bowl affiliation - where BYU occasionally plays an American opponent (a la the Miami Beach Bowl and Hawaii Bowl) or shares a possible bid to the Poinsettia, Los Angeles, or Las Vegas bowls.

RE: BYU
I believe the schedule affiliation BYU has with the American is a test drive to see how well the TV ratings turn out, etc. Would help quantify a "what if BYU joined the American" scenario.

Throw in the fact Navy is in the American now, my hunch would be the American then goes after Army and a western travel partner for BYU in Air Force to lock in all the service academies. Can't get any more AMERICAN than that!

Would be difficult to then discount the American conference as the P6 with BYU (perceived P5 win) and the service academies.

Sets up well for the next Playoff contract negotiations for the American for inclusion as the P6 League if this plays out. [/align]

Some AAC teams can be angry at BSU but ignoring their value as an addition would be silly. If the power 5 shifting is done and the American is stable, if there is money to be made or power 6 candidacy in it, the addition of BSU and BYU are a must.

Something else that will help the AAC get more face time on ESPN/2/U is when ESPN and the ACC launch their cable network (target was start of 2016 football season but it may launch in 2017 now). That will open up another 10 - 20 slots (there will still be some ACC football on the main ESPN networks).

That's another good point. They will need the acc net and will use it as a way to pay the acc more

Mildly related, at what point does the Big12 feel the need/pressure to have a network or will they? That is the last game changer IMO.

That will depend on ut
