Neither do I since the Governor of Nevada is a Republican and isn't required to appoint a dim as an interim Senator.

You are looking only one move ahead. Look further.

The best Republican candidate for the next Senate election is the sitting governor. Forcing him to seat an interim Senator could damage his own run for the office. He can't appoint himself, and anyone he appoints will run for election. Whoever that is will be a weaker opponent that Gov. Sandoval.

At the same time, a weak, unable to serve Harry Reid will take to the Nevada airwaves declaring that the people elected a Democrat, the seat belongs to a Democrat, and filling it with anything but a Democrat would be criminal. And of course, that Democrat would be his son, Rory.

While it has no chance of succeeding initially, it could strengthen the Democratic candidate for the next election and guarantee a weaker Republican opponent.

The move is not without its merits. It could happen.
