This was the first game I've attended this year (we split our seats with friends) that there were rows of empty seats in the lower level. Sections 106 & 113 were particularly sparse, I thought.

In defense of the current team, it was ECU. That is not a game you usually get up for anyway. If there were 10K there, that sounds fine to me...

I'm not speaking to larger attendance issues, just last night's game. I couldn't attend (actually Memphis for a family issue), but will be at tonight's Grizz game (had family commitment for same and have to settle for grizz tonight instead of Tigers)...

And silly.

An anecdotal example...that is great!

While there are more who unfortunately feel that way, and many who actually believe the last several years were awful- as opposed to just marginally short of expectations- giving highlights to someone who acts like a 2d round tourney team that knocked off five ranked teams on the way but also suffered a few large losses is worthy of this level of whining and quitting...or that 13-7 is so horrific that it deserves this level of scorn- or that this is a bridge year to what will likely be a very good team next season (yes the bullies feast on that one)...

Pretty lame.

All of this is one of the more glaring overreactions I have ever witnessed. Even those who refuse to mock Memphis recognize things are down some this year and last year's team likely fell a game short and had a few too many big losses, the five scintillating wins over ranked teams, especially the thrilling home wins over Gonzaga and Louisville and the tourney win over GW...at least temper that disappointment to...just that, some mild disappointment. Whereas making fun of fans, coaches, players (and they do) and basically any level of fun- is classic overkill.

But yes- allowed. Along with the whining when tweaked back.

Watch them go folks.

I think there are a few camps here, if we can allow for nuance:

1. Those that thing the last few years are an acceptable level of sustained success.

2. Those who are unsure that the last few years are an acceptable level of success, but are concerned about the way our seasons have ended and the higher number of bad (margin/non-competitive) losses we have endured.

3. Those who feel that the level of success is not acceptable.

There are also subquestions, I feel.

A. Is this (Round of 32) Pastner's 'ceiling'? Or can he still improve and start achieve the second weekend and beyond?

B. Does our CC heavy class this year point to future recruiting issues?

C. Is Pastner's personality and public persona a good fit for the Memphis fanbase.

>>>>>

I am actually proud of our achievements under Pastner, think he's done a good (not great, but good) job and has certainly earned next year to overcome a down year.

But having said that, the questions I identified are all valid and answering them will go a long way to determining whether he is the best HC to lead our tigers forward in the coming decade.

It's an open question. I assume we'll have more clarity in the next year in either direction. Best of luck to him and our team!

Everytime I try to read his posts, I just picture some old guy whittling on the front porch on a lazy summer day, some quiet banjo/dulcimer type music providing context. His words serving as a wrap up like Waylon would do on the Dukes, but more of a Burl Ives type voice. Never really providing any tangible info, just a summary bout the good ole days.

It is all about nuance.

Mocking our coach is not about nuance.

Nuance is recognizing there have been some mild shortcomings and work to do but not being a dik about it. Most do that. Those who do not have been running amok and that has allowed this once fun site to denigrate into too much crap.

Which will be defended, again, as of course just opinions.

Time running out...what a waste.

Losing an addition is fairly small...the real deal is going to games etc....which will continue and will help.

Tommy West was right.

I don't think he is one. He's simply writing a column about fan reactions. He's also written them about Pastner's great work in the community.

It was quite obvious that many, many others decided not to show up also. Attendance is trending downward with each game. Not a good sign.

I'd say there were roughly 8,000-8,500 there last night, maybe.

So per 200 is the magic number to make things look as had as possible and still not obvious

Interesting
