Not as easy as people think it will be. NCSU could buyout @Troy for 2017 and try to get Duke home. Duke probably buys out NCCU or tries to move its away game with Army to another season. Then Duke would play again at NCSU in 2020. Then NCSU heads back to Duke in 2023 since they have ND that season at Home. I think an every 3 year arrangement would be great. Great way to minimize travel costs and basically both teams have home games since State and Duke are only 25 miles apart.

Will these games be for the ACC network when it comes?

No one is stopping you from playing both - though you might have to give up Troy or South Alabama.

Yup, the ACC/ESPN owns the home games for Tier 3. Just like the SEC Network broadcast all home SEC games. In theory it would be a win for the ACC Network for more inventory. For example, next season @ ODU is a CUSA TV home game and will probably be broadcast by ASN owned by the Sinclair Network and @Troy whoever owns the Sun Belt games.

So it would actually benefit SEC Network and the future ACC Network to schedule games like this even in Olympic Sports since they own the TV Contracts and would be a way to increase inventory.

Never had looked at it from that perspective. I could definitely see how such type arrangements could hurt G5 schools.

FYI:
@ODU will probably be on CBS Sports or FS1 (CUSA has deals with FOX and CBS)
@Troy ESPN3 or ESPNU or ESPNews (Sun Belt is under ESPN)

Why don't the 14 team conferences just play each other? Is there a rule that says you have to schedule OOC games at all?

No- but you need at least a warm-up game where you can play deep into your bench, check out how some players respond in game conditions.

You also should play a good OOC team to expose yourself to some play from outside your conference since your conf foes know you so well its not a great test.

More evidence to go to 9 conference games.

RE: Talks about NCSU vs Duke as OOC, that didn't take long
Really, it makes more sense to force everyone to a 9 game schedule verse the handful of games that people may want to see more than twice every 12 years? NCSU plays ECU on a more frequent basis than Duke. I just think it would be great to get them into that three year rotation as well by playing two OOC games. Knowing you have Duke and ECU 8 times in 12 years would be pretty good.

The ACC I believed play a bunch of away G5 games and has scheduled future H/H with G5 teams. If a Nine game conference schedule happens, which games do you think are the first to get the axe? FCS Home game or G5 H/H? If an ACC nine game schedule happens, I think ECU playing UNC or NCSU would be the first causality. That is a great game for this region that would be sad to see go away.

Only in your mind, sir...

As long as Notre Dame and the ACC Football members have a 5-game per season agreement, the ACC is not playing a 9-game schedule, NOR SHOULD IT HAVE TO just to appease the masses.

And given the success of this first go-round of said agreement, it's not going anywhere.

IMHO -- This is all about:

1) Renewing rivalries that got lost in the expansion (UNC/Wake, Duke/State as soon as they can find dates, etc)

2) Scheduling Flexibility for all members without necessarily affecting conference title aspirations (and by extension, College Football Playoff aspirations).

3) Tier-Three content, at worse -- Tier One content at best.

No...its just making the ACC look stupid to the common people who know it really isn't an out-of-conference because they are in the same conference. Not surprised the only defenders are the ACC/ND fans....

Exactly. If they gave a crap about their little rivalries why did they expand to 14.5. This makes the ACC look idiotic IMO. What happens when FSU and NCSU (suspend your disbelief for a minute) are leading their division, State has the "IN CONFERENCE" tie-breaker but they lost their "OUT OF CONFERENCE" game vs Dook? The whole thing will look like a joke.

Based on the schedule it will be difficult for NC State to do much of anything before 2021. Starting next year NC State has a combination of Notre Dame, West Virginia, and Mississippi State on the schedule for the next 6 years. In the out of division cross over, NC State has Miami, and VT in several of those years to go along with annual games with Clemson, FSU, UNC, and Louisville. On top of that are several politically directed games with ECU.

It is crazy that State and Duke stopped playing annually in 2004. Prior to that we played 77 of the previous 78 years. We have played just 3 times in the last decade.

If the ACC draws divisions where the Big 4 play a round-robin - that's not enough to satisfy historical scheduling demands. UNC and UVa have played for over 100 years. NC State will not want to lose the Textile Bowl game with Clemson and GT will not want to lose it's game with Duke.

Why anyone would care who NC State, WF, Duke or UNC play is beyond me. I know State fans would rather watch us play Duke than Elon or Gardner Webb or Western Carolina, even though we lose money on such a set up as we lose a 7th home game. Duke home and home, means a chump at home goes away. Because of the lack of freeboard in the stadium, as many will buy tickets to see Duke, as to see Elon or FSU. Now NC State can charge a little more for Duke as opposed to Elon, but not enough to make up for the lost 7th game.

State Future Schedule:

NC State Future Non-Conference Opponents - 2015+
2015
09/05 - Troy
09/19 - at Old Dominion
09/26 - at South Alabama
TBA - Eastern Kentucky

2016
09/17 - Old Dominion
10/08 - Notre Dame
TBA - at East Carolina
TBA - William & Mary

2017
09/02 - Furman
09/09 - Marshall
09/23 - at Troy
10/28 - at Notre Dame

2018
09/08 - Georgia State
09/15 - West Virginia
09/22 - at Marshall
TBA - James Madison

2019
09/07 - Western Carolina
09/14 - at West Virginia
09/21 - Ball State
TBA - East Carolina

2020
09/05 - Delaware
09/12 - Mississippi State

2021
09/04 - Furman
09/11 - at Mississippi State

2022
TBA - Charleston Southern
TBA - at East Carolina

2023
TBA - Notre Dame
08/31 - Western Carolina

2024
Nothing

2025
TBA - at Notre Dame

And here is what you don't usually see - the rotating ACC game for NC State and Duke

Year State Duke

15 VT BC
16 Miami Louis
17 Pitt FSU
18 UVa Clemson
19 GT Syracuse
20 Duke State
21 Miami Louisville
22 VT BC
23 UVa Clemson
24 Pitt FSU

Duke Future Schedule:

Duke Future Non-Conference Opponents - 2015+
2015 2016
09/03 - at Tulane
09/12 - NC Central
09/19 - Northwestern
10/10 - at Army

2016
09/17 - at Northwestern
09/24 - at Notre Dame
TBA - Army
TBA - NC Central

2017
09/09 - Northwestern
09/23 - Baylor
TBA - at Army
TBA - NC Central

2018
09/08 - at Northwestern
09/15 - at Baylor
TBA - Army

2019
09/07 - at Middle Tennessee
11/09 - Notre Dame
TBA - Tulane

2020
09/05 - Middle Tennessee
TBA - at Notre Dame

2021
Nothing

2022
Nothing

2023

TBA - Notre Dame

Now keep in mind. Duke does not need money. Even though 12K-15K NC State fans will buy the tickets at Duke $480K to $600K for them is chump change.

When the shoe is on the other foot, not one extra person will be crammed into Carter-Finley Stadium. NC State might be able to charge an extra $15 for the ticket and that's $825K, but that's $825 after losing one home game every other year with a chump - a game that otherwise would generate at least $2.2 million just in face ticket sales.

If you are looking for reasons, it's not just realignment, but the amount of money that good FCS and lower level G-5's want for guarantee games.
